Democrats will not even allow legislation to come to the floor of the house for debate if they perceive it to help the Bush Administration in any way. So we can expect the Democrat dominated congress to spend the next two years ignoring anything to help America while doing their utmost to destroy the executive branch of our government? Are these the people we want in charge of our legislature? Way to go, voters. You elected 'em.

In 2006, the U.S. added almost 600 billion to the national debt. The 2006 portion of the "tax cuts" amounted to 170 billion. By my calculations, this amounts to a 430 billion tax increase. That 430 billion will accumulate interest each year, and will have to be paid by American tax payers Please tell me how I am wrong here ?

I have an ex-boyfried who I let get a car in my name and he got over $4000 in parking tickets which I was paying on them. Well last week I went to court for the fines because I had not paid any since January this year and I was sentenced to 24 days in jail. I did not do any time because I paid off my fines at the jail but I was processed, I had to wait in a holding cell for 7 hours before the money was brought to me. My question is should I sue my ex? He has paid almost $8000 in payments for the car but I feel he should have paid his fines. I have 2 kids, one his, and I don't really have the extra money for this. Do you think I have a chance to win or should I forget about it because I do have the car and title?

My child was in a fenced yard on private property jumping on a trampolene with an adult present at around 10:15 p.m. during spring break when an officer who is well known for his abuse of power against children pulled up, demanded he jump the fence, then made him lay down on the ground, march up the alley they were in, yelled and screamed at him, all with adult witnesses who have reported this to the chief of police present? Do I have to pay the $169.00 ticket, and by the way, after I went to the PD and pitched a fit the officer stated a neighbor saw the boys in the alley at a few minutes after 10 and called it in, the boys werent doing anything, but the officer stated he can still write the ticket because a neighbor saw the boy in the alley after curfew, he doesn't have to see it, he just needs the neighbors word on it. What can I do about this?

... in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights as I have read them to you?

Recognize this from TV? Or an unfortunate brush with the law?

Yep - ACLU again in the decision Miranda v. Arizona. The Court held that criminal suspects must be informed of their right to consult with an attorney and of their right against self-incrimination prior to questioning by police. It keeps the police honest. Today they are called the Miranda rights.

I know that refusing a breath, urine or blood sample can result in enhanced penalties, but are there any penalties for refusing to take field sobriety tests.

By that I mean the motor skills "stand on one foot" tests.

Can you simply say "Officer, I do not believe that standing on one foot has anything to do with operating a motor vehicle safely. Therefore I am refusing to do that."

I think that they are a waste of time because drunk or sober you will always fail them... the cop is the person grading you! And from what I have seen, your performance (as described by the cop) is used against you in court.

So I want to know legally if refusing a field test (but not Breathalyzer) carries enhanced penalties.
