the short answer is that generally we can count on the media to get us as much info as can be gotten. Media has strong incentive to find it because it is juicy news that people will want to see (and thus advertisers will pay for)
Most corporations do not give directly, but through groups that represent their industries. Many favors that individual corporations get are at the state level, where it is mostly I scratch your back if you scratch mine, largely paperless and difficult to prove at best. Of course the largest sources of funding are generally one issue individuals and 527's. It is difficult to monitor it all well because of the complexity and also the general sense of free speech = ability to give whatever to any political campaign.
The same could of course be said for think tanks on both the right and left and any other group who the public has a vested interest in knowing their sources of funding , basically any place that pushes a particular position (regardless of political side, or stated motivation) is susceptible to being funded by people who have vested interests in certain polices being enacted or continuing.

They usually do not find out, however I think every running politician should have to under go audits with the results of full disclosure posted for 30 days in the local newspapers.

When the politician does/says something to upset the lobbyist(s) (in other words, he/she doesn't keep the 'deal' they made), that's usually when the perks are "leaked" to the media.
