What would the world be like if America disappeared tomorrow?

What if America just cut itself off from the entire world? Ending all communication and trade with other nations.
- Withdrawl from the UN
- Withdrawrl from NATO
- Withdrawl all combat forces from abroad
- Withdrawl the US Navy from sea trade lanes
- Withdrawl all aid to foreign nations. - food, water, money, technology, medicine, chemicals, etc.
- Discontinue the exportation of : clothing, movies, music, technology, medicine, space science, lietrature, natural resources, democracy, TV shows, and many modern luxuries you take for granted EVRY DAY!!

one more thing - No more US Military intervention EVER AGAIN!!!......If China or Russia invade - anywhere, America will NOT come to help. If Iran invades or launches missiles at you - no help!

ANYTHING!!!!....and we promise!!!...How would you feel then?

Would America still be viewed as a terrorist nation?

Imperialism is the "policy, practice or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially, by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas" (Webster's Seventh Collegiate dictionary).

If if the U.S. did all those things, it would no longer be viewed as an imperialist power - but then , where would it get its $3.50 per gallon gasoline and its cheap Chinese goods; and how could it continue to consume 25% of the world's oil and gas production?

The American empire has over 750 military bases spread around the world. They are there to protect the interests of Americans and American corporations- not as a gift to foreigners.

I think economically the world would be greatly affected, as well as America. America cannot survive on it's own with it's own oil, it would be ludricous to suggest it's a self sufficient nation.

The US would then collapse as a nation after several years and fragment into different territories.

The world itself could cope, Europe would be more closer to China and India in terms of trade. Europe would therefore benefit economically. Extremism would affect Europe more however that is if European policies mimicked the former American policies in the ME. That being said, America would not intervene if the Arab decides to invade Israel and therefore Israel would not exist, and Islamic extremists would not use it as a pretext. However as Al Qua'eda believe in the restoration of the Caliphate they will still try and commit terrorism against power nations to a lesser extent.

I think on the whole, the world environmentally and politically would be more peaceful.

This is hilarious since Americans import virtually every manufactured good they buy.

Let's see...first of all gas stations would completely dry up, then in the short term the country would face a huge energy crisis with rolling blackouts of the power grid assuming they ended all foreign relations with Canada and Mexico from whom American imports the vast majority of its oil and natural gas.

Next the US dollar would collapse, bringing down various other currencies.

Oh, and interest rates would skyrocket since the Chinese are holding the morgages on most of the houses in America as they own over 1 trillion in gov't bonds. US companies would see their potential customer base of 6.5 billion wiped to just 300 million so the stock market would collapse, and since all economies are so intricately connected in today's world, so would the rest of the world's open economies. Then the Red Chinese would have no customers to sell their cheap goods to and collapse.

References to the Third Reich are hilarious....yes Captain america single handedly saved the world from Hitler. Have you ever even read a history book? Talk to somebody from Russia.

This is far too democratic for me to get into to be honest. I neither am for nor against countries par-say but I must just say that an answer below did hit on a personal thought. Pearl harbour was the only reason America got involved in world war II and if it had not of been for the British America would not be the country it is today, that is why they speak English, that is why we have a close alliance.

For all our country is small, it has influenced and been the making of lots of other countries, Australia to name another. But I am no patriot, I believe in life not power, I believe in freedom, not slavery, I believe in myself and those I love, a country is after all only as good as its people!!

The world would be a lot quieter. LIEtrature seems right coming from you, has only The USA as ever invented anything or wrote anything worth reading. The USA cuts its self off from the world more than you care to think. It has the most protectionist polices to protect its industry, thus stopping third world country's developing industry's of there own. Ho! but we will give food aid instead as long as its GM which we Europeans don't want, but are being taken to court about. What right as American company's got to tell anyone what they should eat. Guarantee you that would hurt America more than the rest of the world. Economic collapse for the world would be the overall result, but with each other to work with, the rest of the world would recover faster than we would sitting around by ourself. They can create their own clothing and luxuries, and many of them do. In fact, without America as competition, a lot of countries would actually THRIVE with us gone. Yes, our aid would be gone, but so would our consumption. It would likely even out, and many of these countries in the world have much better militaries than you think. They just are stupid enough to show them off unless necessary, therefore saving their governments billions of dollars. Meanwhile, we would have no more countries to borrow money from. We would have no more countries to buy our goods. Our economy would collapse, and there would be no way to repair it. Thus, we would be unable to continue funding our own military. That 4th Reich would be HERE. The rest of the world can work together to stop it. Who will help US? Sorry, dude, but your plan would certainly backfire. We are more dependent on other countries than you realize. Take a basic economics class.

First of all the American economy would collapse. China owns a great deal of the national debt, so to cut ourselves off from them would cause them to call our loan, which would destroy our economy. Cutting off trade with other countries would deny us many essential goods.

Second, the world's economy would collapse. We are by far the biggest economy in the world, so our collapse would kill the economies of a number of other countries, and badly harm many others.

Third, a great many of our interests abroad would be lost. Many of our allies would be left unprotected.

But, since it would make such a great point about how annoyed we are about people criticizing our actions, I think we should do it anyway. Geez, grow up.
