-AP- "Call it a sign of the times for Louisiana's embattled governor: A chance to dine with Gov. Kathleen Blanco fetched a winning bid of $1 at a recent fundraising auction hosted by a group of business leaders.

The president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, in northeastern Louisiana, said she called Blanco's office Tuesday to apologize for a "poor joke gone awry."

"It's something we deeply regret," chamber president Sue Edmunds said Wednesday. "Our organization has worked very well with the governor. We have been pleased with her efforts on behalf of this community."

Dinner with Blanco was the last item up for bid at the fundraising auction last week. Edmunds said the bidding opened at $1,000 and dropped to $500 before the auctioneer accepted a $1 bid from bank executive Malcolm Maddox, a regional chairman for Capital One."

I hope she doesn't have this much trouble raising money for the next election.

Just last week an economist from Bangladesh got a Peace Nobel Prize for economic Development because he developed an income generating approach through a Gramin Bank (Rural Development Bank), aren’t they the Peace Fellows get frustration with such decision?
Why not the Nobel Board gave Economic Nobel Prize? Isn’t it a mistake of the Nobel Board? Or a kind of special privileged discrimination?

I don't have much interest in politics, and even though I watch the news a few times a week, I haven't heard of him! This is a name I'd like to know more about, though. I like to be up to speed for conversations. What should I know about him? Why is he so popular? He's a potential presidential candidate even though he hasn't really held a high office for long? Am I hearing right? Giving Hilary a run for her money as Dem. candidate? Who do you think will be on the ballot for Dems in 08? I think this will be one of the more exciting elections, that's for sure! Thanks for your time and opinions! I'll pick a best answer.

I'd be interested in knowing who everyone thinks is the top 5 best Presidents of the United States. Please list them from 1 - 5 and then give a very brief reason why? I find this exercise to be very very telling about people.

On August 6, 1945-Harry S. Truman decided to drop a bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. In doing so, he says to have saved many lives that would later be killed in further war. Do you think this man should be prosecuted as a war criminal, or merely be aknowledged as a war hero?

This global warming question has sparked me to ask this question, but when I was creating my avatar I noticed that under 'causes' there were only liberal ones. There were no pro-life, or pro-charity, or anything of that sort. I sent them an email regarding this, and I have not received a reply, and that was a couple weeks ago. What experience do you have regarding this?

I am asking this because some co-workers and i were just talking about it and we all agree that prisoner's who have been sentenced to serve maximum amount of years up to life or on death row should be sent to war instead of the men & woman who have families and a life waiting for them at home. And then if help were needed, then the troops at home could be drafted. I think that because citizens are already paying tax dollars to keep prisoners in prison and or to build new prisons with our tax dollars, why not put them to good use? It could be a 50/50 chance for a prisoner too. If i were a prisoner serving a 25-life sentence and i had the chance to go fight in iraq for 3-years and came back to america as a free person, that my debt would be paid to society?....i would definately do it! What do you think? Should it become a political issue we as people could vote on, would you vote yes or no?

My friend said she saw a "very you child" (I couldn't nail her down on the age) with ear spools. I think that is what they are called. They are those discs that people put in their ears to make themselves look like Ubangi's. If you see something like that should you call human services? This kids future could be in jepordy. I am sure he would never get a AAA ratiing if he wanted to be a bond trader at Goldman Sachs. What if he turns out like Alex in family ties and wants to be different than his "Wayne"s World" parents.

I've been thinking about joining the military, and my recruiter says that many of your basic costs of living (food, housing, health care) are paid for in the military. I've also heard that many veterans leave the service completely broke, because they had so many unexpected cost while serving. What kind of costs would a single enlistee have to pay regularly, and how much money left over would he have?

I was driving along when I noticed a young policeman out of his vehicle shouting down to a driver of a citizen's car(driver's side). He saw me looking and he didnt like me looking. So I kept driving, next thing I know, I've got this cops tailing me, they flash the lights to stop me and I did.I pulled over and got out of the car, that's when one of the cops started going off at me verbally, he wouldnt let me talk, shouting "Do you want to go back to your family tonight? then don't say a word, Shut up." The other cop just watched, he didn't participate as the other continued his attack on myself. What can the average citizen do when confronted with a similar situation? They never gave me a ticket, asked me for my licence or breath-test me. After all the abuse he told me to get in my car and go.
