Carter's new book:

Carter emphasizes that “Christian and Muslim Arabs had continued to live in this same land since Roman times,” but he ignores the fact that Jews have lived in Hebron, Tzfat, Jerusalem, and other cities for even longer. Carter repeatedly claims that the Palestinians have long supported a two-state solution and the Israelis have always opposed it. Yet he makes no mention of the fact that in 1938 the Peel Commission proposed a two-state solution with Israel receiving a mere sliver of its ancient homeland and the Palestinians receiving the bulk of the land. The Jews accepted and the Palestinians rejected this proposal, because Arab leaders cared more about there being no Jewish state on Muslim holy land than about having a Palestinian
state of their own.

This does not seem very logical to me.

Bush claims he will not speak with Ahmadinejad until Ahmadinejad gives up his nuclear ambitions. Ahmadinejad won't give up his nuclear ambitions without coaxing.

Would holding direct talks not make this process easier? Is it simply arrogance that will not allow Bush to meet with him?

As an analogy, if Reagan had never held talks with Russian leaders, would the Cold War still have ended in 1989 or would it have gone on longer?

It just seems that it couldn't hurt anything to at least talk, maybe not promise action, but talk with Ahmadinejad.

this girl i know just got shot and died... what happened was her 16 year old cousin gave a gun that had a bullet in it to her 3 year old cousin. the 3 year old shot her in her face and she became brain dead should the 16 year old or the 3 year old go to jail and for what?murder or possesion or firearm or both?

In poli-sci 101, you learn that the traditional ideal of American conservatives is to minimize government interference in private lives. It now seems that those affiliating with conservatism now, however, want to propose legislation such as gay marriage bans, anti-sodomy laws (we had them recently in Texas, not sure about elsewhere), and anti-abortion laws.

Has the definition of conservative shifted that much or are these people simply using the name "conservative" to try and attract a voter base?

It is quite funny to read these people's responses, because targeting civilians is actually part of a just war from the supreme emergency exemption. Not that I like civilians being targeted or anything, its just sometimes civilians are not really targeted, but rather people like Al-Zarqawi is targeted, and he hides behind and civilians, and the civilians die, as does Al-Zarqawi

a) The immigrats, whether they are legal or not, are just trying to make a life better life for themselves. America is supposed to be the land of opportunity after all.
b) Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's right. Everything Hitler did to the Jews was legal. Everything Columbus did to the natives of the Caribbean was legal. Slavery was legal.
c) Unless you're Native American, everyone in America is an illegal immigrant. America is a country made up of immigrants, it's what's supposed to make America so great.
d) The world has so many issues to worry about. It would be so much better if the general public focused their energy on something better, like preventing global warming.
e) According to the New York Times, immigrants actually make America safer (less crime).
f) Most people in America are in America because they're lucky, not because they've better.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, these are just my thoughts. Don't get angry over nothing.
