Not really, if you're referring to the US. We used to have segregation, serious inequality for women, blue laws, blatant censorship and all manner of other hostile and/or ridiculous legislation. We're definitely not out of the woods yet in terms of human rights, but this country's far better than it used to be in terms of realizing that all people really ARE created equal. I wouldn't want to go back to the "good old days" (when minorities were kept down, children were for beating, gays had no political voice whatsoever, and women were expected to stay pregnant and in the kitchen) for anything.

George Bush and the crony Congress! A rush to attack Iraq who had nothing to do with 9/11, and utter stupidity! 3 1/2 TRILLION more in deficit in 6 years!
Bush has no policies that are coherent! Sure there is an answer: Butt out of other peoples business, get the troops out and stop the rich and corporations "steal" our money!
We need a new president and a new direction. The Republicans have proved they are corrupt and have no answers! We were much better off without Bush, and I hate to admit that Nixon did a better job than Bush has!

Sarah c hit the nail on the head. Thatcher scapegoated single mums, and now Blair is scapegoating Muslims (even the British ones), although most Muslims are not immigrants.
Ironic this is being posted on the Immigration thread!

somewhere on this it said BRITISH MUSLIMS
muslims should stay in their own country,im not racist, but think they have more rights than we do,they claim everything on the ethical grounds,
in 20 years us british can claim that, because the way this counrty is going we will soon be a minority, thats why so many brits are leaving this country,
Question..
how many churchs are they in a MUSLIM country???
this counrty stinks,i had to work for what i got, immigrants get everything free, without every paying a penny into the british system, why do you think they all travel here,ITS ALL FREE
aint they meant to stay in the first safe country they reach...

Yes, this country has gone down hill. you cannot even go and buy something, anymore, with out, having to read 4 sections in a ownersmanual in 4 different languages. I can under stand if people want to come here, and live. But they need to learns some values that us americans live and stand for each day of the week. What really chaped my hide is when they took out the pledge of allegence out of schools. If we went over to a different country, and became a national, we would have to adapt to it asap, learn the volcals, and learn to become adapt to the culture. We are americans, we need to stand up, and let our goverment know that this is crap, and be who we are. Free, right to bare arms, and screw the left wing side of crap. We are going to be in a rut, unless we act now!!!!!Stand up and fight for what is right.

Enforcement of our laws has gone downhill. But so has something called respect. Respect for our country and the laws, is something that I remember growing up with.

Definitely, and still is. Blame this left wing government, the human rights act, left wing TV media, left wing teachers/lecturers, public sector lefties, feminists, Guardian readers, and so on. Their anti-family, anti-religion ideaology stinks. The answer, of course, is to get rid of them in any way that you can. They hate the Capitalist system, are unpatriotic, and generally have a sour humourless attitude to life.

Perhaps your answer is right there within your own question?
Any country (and its residents) that put themselves up on a pedastal (consider themselves superior) above all others could be seen as asking to to be knocked down the hill a notch?
For example, entering a "GLOBAL Q&A website" and asking a question about "This country" assuming (without intent perhaps) that everyone will know "which country" "this" country is?
