The Pentagon's top uniformed lawyers took issue Thursday with a key part of a White House plan to prosecute terrorism detainees, telling Congress that limiting the suspects' access to evidence could violate treaty obligations....

"I believe the accused should see that evidence," said Maj. Gen. Scott Black, the Army's Judge Advocate General.

Black and the other lawyers said such an allowance was a fundamental right in other court systems and would meet requirements under the Geneva Conventions.

Although he's a Republican, I have mass respect for him. He is concerned with the inside of our country, and out. My dad was a MArine in Vietnam, so that just increases my vote to him. He also has major plans for our military and the wellfare of the country.

I have no idea how many illegal immigrants who come would want to do so legally and I don't care. The point is that we have no real immigration policy to enforce. Either you give immigrants wishing to come legally a fair and reasonable opportunity to do so (Ellis Island ring a bell?) or you set a limit on how many legal immigrants you'll accept and then enforce restrictions on the rest. The "Land of Freedom and Opportunity" doesn't have the same ring if you add, "but only for those of us who are already here" to the end, but at least it would be a coherent policy. My true challenge for the "close the border" types out there is what would you do if the gov't actually made it reasonably doable for even 1/2 the immigrants who come to do so legally? Would you still be singing the "it's not that they're immigrants (read: not white), it's that they're illegal" tune?

I was travelling to North Dakota for a flight back to Detroit. It was a slow night and it seemed as though the 4 border guys on duty just pulled me over because they had nothing better to do. It is a shame when security FEARS cause a country to start treating their friends like enemies. I suspect that North Dakota got some extra anti-terrorism funding and are trying to justify it. Make work projects never fill a person with an inherent sense of dignity. If you start turning Canadians into enemies, who will be left to be your friends?
PS I cancelled a later trip to the US because I don't need to put up with that garbage.

Remember when there was that whole issue with the indestructable passport - the one found amidst the smolder debris of bodies and steel? Remember also how the FBI suggested that some of those accused of the hijackings might have had their IDs stolen?

In all honesty, shouldn't these questions be answered? Shouldn't there be a more thorough investigation? Even members of the 9/11 Commission are writing books regarding the fact that we aren't being told everything. They stop short of accussing the government of anything, but it raises questions.

As Americans, left or right, shouldn't we investigate these inconsistencies?

A few weeks ago I went to this resort in / near Miami Florida. The last night I was there I was sleeping when this giant picture / picture frame hit me in the head when I was sleeping. Besides waking me up, it gave me one hell of a nasty bruise on my forehead, I took pictures of my forehead and pictures of the wall and picture / picture frame and went back to bed, I was going to forget it, but I'm still getting the occasional REALLY bad headache..... what should I do?

I dont understand this

If you come here illegally that means you VIOLATED AMERICAN LAWS. So if that iss the case why are they not sent to jail and charged like any other law violation?

I wanted the confederacy to win because, all the south wanted to do is form there own country, because since they were all democrat in a republican government, they had no say in the countries issues, and the north just used slavery to gain allies. Not that I agree with slavery, I just think it is wrong to make that seem like thats what the whole war was about, slavery was just a foot note, basically, the south were pilgrims and the north was the angry british power. I do not want to be a conservative or a liberal, I want to be me. But my personality makes me a conservative. Liberals, please help me understand you. I am not joking. For me an issue like abortion is simple, I see it as wrong. I, for the life of me, cannot understand how someone can support killing children.
