Despite all sensible advice Bush has managed to plunge the world into certain major conflict, whilst Blair is bending over backways to please him. These questions need to be asked.

it was Dem's and Rep's alike who voted for it base on info from the intelligence community (CIA,FBI etc) that was gathered during Clinton's admin. Bush was only in office 8 months when 9/11 happened, he had to make a quick decision based on the info he was given. Also if you remember 9/11 was planned at least 3 yrs before it was actually carried out not to mention the bombing of the world trade center was on clinton's watch....you can point the finger of blame at bush for some things but there is a lot of others that should share the burden. at least tell the truth ppl don't just regurgitate what you hear from cnn.

When the actual possesion of a radar detector dosen't cause you to break the law only possibly influences you, why are they illegal? If a government agency is monitoring you without a warrant shouldn't you be able to posses technology that could identify this to you?

I use to live in VA where they were illegal, I got 3 tickets, twice it wasn't even plugged in (if it's within possesion it is illegal by VA state law). I live in FL where they state government acts as it should according to the US constitution.

The US will never overcome the challanges that we face if we do not learn to work together as fellow citizens of the United States and not as idealogues of the Democrats and Republicans. The debates are fun, but the bottom line is that we have to work together.

There are some studies that show that the expected social cost of gambling is $3 in costs for every $1 in tax revenue. Are there any studies that refute that claim? While there are certainly many societal costs to gambling, I feel that the study I am reading doesn't adequately cover the societal benefits.

The study I am referring to is at http://www.gcpartnership.com/uploadedFiles/Advocacy/SocialCostfull%20report%20aug%2015-24.pdf

Specifically what would define a self defense situation? Would angry and aggressive or abusive behaviour and the threat of violence still count; and if so to what degree? How far exactly are you legally able to go to defend yourself? In what cases can pre-empting an aggressor be justified legally? Links appreciated

I come from a working class background, have worked since I was 14, worked through highschool and college, never relied on inheritances or my parents for money (my mother is deceased), just finished a year of Amercorps service, and I now currently work a full time office job. I am turning white collar but I will never turn my back on my roots! I don't like taxes any more than the next person, but I pay them because it is my civic duty. I am also a Democrat, so hate me for your neoconservative reasons!

The House and Senate does nothing but write new laws, coerce, tax and oppress. If the representatives aren't doing these things, they are voted out of office. My complaint is not that they are taking five weeks off. My complaint is "Why aren't they taking FIVE YEARS OFF and give We the People a break from their oppressive system of rules, treaties, regulations, taxes, restrictions, political correctness and spending that is WAY PAST EXTREME!!

Most 'democracies' are actually republics--people vote for people who decide the fate of their nation. In a nation with television, telephones, and lots of internet connections, It seems possible (with some efforts to ensure people without phones can still vote, etc.) to have a legislature that writes laws for the entire voting population to vote on every week (or as needed).

Would more people pay attention to politics if they knew they could make a difference? Would regular people vote as wisely as legislators? Would this give the press too much power?

(I know that it would be difficult bordering on impossible to change the foundation of a real government of a technologically advanced nation. I'm wondering hypothetically how well everyone thinks it would work if it did happen.)

So, good idea or bad idea?
