Jefferson was a hypocrite. He preached freedom but owned slaves. Jesus was a character from the bible. Whether he was devinne remains to be seen. King was also a hypocrite. He preached morality and family values while laying with every woman he crossed paths with. He preached none violence but was the cause of more up evil then any other single person of the '50's and '60's. Those who are uneducated or don't take the time to research their heroes remain unguided.

Please clarify your question and then we can answer it.

And, in response to the first respondent, Lincoln was Republican but it was when the Republicans were a new revolutionary party of social progress. Now, they are the party of reaction.

Since no clarification is forthcoming let us look again at the question:
"Tom Jefferson,Jesus Christ,Martin Luther King,Lincoln were Liberals.so why does Bush/Cheney mock them?"

Bumpocooper and a few others have done a fine job of discussing whether or not the above were liberals.

Others have spoken about Bush/Cheney making a mockery of them. Bush/Cheney pretend to admire these liberals but obviously as right-wing extremists their admiration becomes essentially a mockery of the principals of these "liberals".

Maybe another angle on your question is we would say that Jefferson, Christ, Dr. King and Lincoln were liberators rather than liberals. Bush wants to cloak himself in the garb of liberation when dealing with countries like Iraq. In fact, Bush's objectives are purely imperialistic (e.g. oil). Hence, by pretending that he is a fellow liberator and proponent of justice he is mocking these true liberators and proponents of justice.

Jesus cared about people and their needs. That could possibly mirror the party that advocates the benefits of social programs including food, education and healthcare access for the poor. I see where you are going with this BUT Jesus, my Savior, cannot be labeled because he is above this world.

Okay - King and Lincoln definitely (back then the Republican party was the party of the abolitionists). King would definitely be in favor of affirmative action programs. Don't revere the myth of the man and rationalize how his words are not relevant today. Jefferson thought that way but didnt have enough spine to stand up for his beliefs. But at least he wrote the words that someday someone else would fight for.

Why are they NOT mocked by Bush/Cheney/conservative republicans? Because to do so would offend a great many americans. Again, don't touch the myth of the man..... just work to dismantle everything he stood for. Say one thing and do another... that is the lie that keeps american politics together.

Recipe for politics:

Smile in our face, tell us what we want to hear, get elected.... then feel free to vote with the lobbyists and take bribes and barter favors with other rich white guys all the while assuring us you are a man of the people. Repeat every 4-6 years.

They were Liberals in their time. If you look into Jefferson he believed in a Laissez-Faire economy meaning a market system with no gov. help. It was very Libertarian. Lincoln was socially liberal, but fiscally conservative and King was the same way. Jesus Christ would still be considered liberal today. I mean give all your money to the poor and go to heaven. He would probably be for free choice too, which means he would be pro-choice. I don't know why or if Bush and Cheney mock them.

Some people think (wrongly) that money and power are a zero-sum game. They believe that any time you give power or money, someone else is losing it (and, since they have power, that someone is them).

Jefferson, MLKjr, and Lincoln all wanted to give power to people who have little. A conservative is happy with the power and money he has, and doesn't like to see other people having it too. What usually happens when people are newly empowered is that there is more power and money in circulation--no one really loses anything. Some people don't realize this--they think life is a game, and there have to be winners and losers. They can't imagine that everyone could win. (BTW-Never heard Bush or Cheney mock Christ--I don't think they know he is liberal.)

They do so to increase their own public prestige. It's easy and common for both sides to mock their opposition, and much more convenient to ignore their accomplishments.

And yes, Lincoln was a liberal. It's just that being "Republican" was, back then, closer to what we consider "Democrat" (and vice versa). What happened was that the "Democratic" south was flattened by the North in the Civil War. After this, they were all about reconciliation and leniency, which gradually came to be associated with their party name. This is, of course, a gross oversimplification of the situation, but generally true.

Oh haven't you heard? The new Conservative version of the bible is out, it has Jesus saying "Blessed are the RICH!" They still hate Martin Luther King--they think he was a Communist and a philanderer plus of course he supported peace (very subversive) and equal rights for all people (ditto), and Thomas Jefferson is conveniently forgotten. No, the Conservative Movement is built on Rush Limbaugh's drug induced delusions.

This question is too stupid to give a good answer. Firstly, Jesus Christ had as much of a position on the current liberal holy grails of abortion, gay marriage, raising taxes to pay for crappy schools, and removing references to religion from the public square as my socks do.

Why not make up an equally stupid question for you so you can ponder it with your low level of critical thinking: "Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and the Junta in Burma are all left wing, so why don't Bush/Cheney talk more about them?"

Jesus was a terrorist. At the time of Lincoln Repubs were on the political left so yes Lincoln was a liberal. Of course Jefferson was a liberal he pretty much is the icon of classic liberalism. Of course MLK was liberal. I don't think people know what it means to be a liberal. And as far as calling Jesus a terrorist, an enemy of the state is a terrorist and he was very much an enemy of the state.

The fact that you state that Jesus Christ would condone the idiotic views of today's liberals is offensive to me. Obviously, you haven't been reading the same Bible that I have, if you've been reading it at all. If you had, you would see that Jesus was most definitely NOT a liberal.

Lashea99yaya, just a quick blurb about your comments. Don't even get me started on the whole Katrina issue! It's funny how many people out there think that it's the government's responsibility to take care of them instead of just taking responsibility for their own sorry butts! I'm not saying that we shouldn't have help them out, but many of those people could've helped themselves out, too.

I'm not sure about Jesus, but the rest kinda were I guess. I'm not even sure that King would have been in favor of affirmative action though.
Also, I don't recall Jesus preaching to the poor to go and beg from the Roman government.
