It's semantics... History will decide and history is written by the victors. although how you choose to fight can decide how you are judged also. If you target civilians and ignore military targets you aren't fighting with honor.

Good question. I suppose when we invaded France we could have been considered terrorist according to some of those above and Germany in WWII .... Hypothetical questions like this one seems to bring out the anger in America haters who like to give their uninformed position. The tendency to think in small terms tends to keep a person from seeing the overall picture. If you would look at all the attacks on the US by Hezbollah and Ha mas since 1979, I think you would agree they are a Terrorist organization. Israel is the only country w/ the guts to stand up for itself. They are patriots to defend their country. We always feel sorry for the underdog which this seems like the case. But it isn't. The Hezbo's are a proxy for another country, Iran. If I was told I wasu need to be wiped off the face of the earth, I would do exactly what Israel is doing now. In truth they are the underdog in this fight. From the nature of your question, it seems you have been victimized by the anti-Israel media. Read some of Clausewitz's The Art of war and you'll understand what the fight is about.

Well I wouldn't be a terrorist. I would attack the invading force. I would not put an explosive vest on my grandchild and send her to ride the bus with the other kids.

I wouldn't be an insurgent because I am indigenous.

Being a patriot is a subjective term and in your reality I doubt anyone who took direct action (pulled a trigger) would qualify. Unless of course, they were invading America or killing Americans here or abroad.

I would be a guerrilla. I would wear no uniform (there goes my protection under the Geneva Convention). Just like our captives in every war were not protected. I would hit and run. I would damage anything I could to slow or stop in invaders progress. And I would watch my back closely for you and others like you.

Good day!

there's a difference when the so called country being invaded uses the killing of civillians as some sort of way to drive out the so called invading country. if they fought with some degree of respect for innocent lives, thier countrymen, then yes they would be patriotic. but since they kill innocent civillians, they don't respect their fellow countrymen and therefore don't respect their country. this would make them a terrorist. also if you're implying iraq in some way, to let you know almost more than half of the insurgents fighting american troops aren't even from iraq. so hence that wouldn't make them a patriot, but a terrorist. hope that helps.

If I fight them, I am a patriot. If I run down to the mall and blow up my fellow countrymen, I am a terrorist. If someone invades a neighboring country and I go there to fight the invader without that nation's population's permission or desire, I am still a terrorist.

Most of the difference lies in the tactics and laws of war that are adhered to. Using things such as using schools, hospitals and other protected sites of religious or historical significance as bases of operations moves you into that specific group of being classified as a terrorist. Then couple that with bringing in people to fight from a different country.... patriots defend thier own countries, not those of everyone else.

There is no double standard. It's as simple as this:

If you fight the foreign army, you are a patriot.

If you deliberately kill innocent civilians, particularly your own people, then you are a terrorist.

That's the key. It's not a matter of calling the side we like patriots and the side we don't like terrorists. It's a matter of how you resist.

When George Washington led the American revolution, he didn't order the indiscriminate execution of Royalist colonists. So like him or not, he wasn't a terrorist.

When Confederate Bushwhackers killed hundreds of innocent men and boys during raids in the American Civil War, they were acting as terrorists. It doesn't matter that they were defending their homeland.

It's that simple. Fight the occupiers, not innocent people, and you're a patriot or insurgent.

In fact you are a Patriot. but it depends. If the country which is attacking you is: The USA or Israel then you are not more than a terrorist. this is the way the world thinks!

In World War 2, the French were on our side, so we called the local resisters: freedom fighters. But now, in Iraq, the same people are called Insurgents. I have no idea where that name came from. It is obvious it was a mistake to go into Iraq, and the "rebuilding" is not happening, the US is blowing huge somes of money for nothing, they are not welcome by most Iraqies apparantly, so why not pull out now? The US lost in Vietnam but at least somebody had the balls to call it off and not prolong it indefinately.
