Serious anwers only pls!

I live in a small 1 room apartment, so there isn't much room for my 2 rats to just run around freely and im scared to put them on the floor because of cords and things they can get underneath like the frig and stove. I have so many cords hooked up to the computers that i can't even tie up neatly. The only place they can play on when out of the cage is the couch and the bed. Do you have any ideas what i could put up around those areas so they can play more and i can put away when companys over? Thanks

I was concidering getting a little mousey to put in with my 2 fem ratties, having visions that they'd mother and treat it as a baby rat. In reality though, would my girls kill the mouse? And does it depend at all on sex?

I got these hamsters from a pet shop about a week ago. The staff were unable to confirm the sexes of the hamsters, which I found strange ... but I bought all three Roborovskis from the same cage ... they get on absolutely fine with each other. The only thing is I noticed one is so rounded she is almost spherical looking, the other is also fairly round but the third one is over 1 cm shorter and much thinner... I have since attempted to sex him and am pretty sure he is a boy while the other 2 are girls... also he keeps running after the fattest female and trying to jump on her back which is obviously attempted mating. He is also easiest to tell apart as he keeps obsessively grooming his coat so his back is always wet. Should I be concerned about this? What I NEED TO KNOW is: if the female(s) DO get pregnant, do I separate the other 2 from her? Or just the male? And for how long after the pups are born? My hammy book gives no advice on this point so please help someone. Many thanks!

My brothers guinea pig doesnt seem to clean his feet as he often gets hard balls of poo rolled up, stuck to his feet next to his little front toes. We have left it too long again to clean it off and it is too hard now for me to wash it off (I am afraid of hurting him). We are gonna take him to the vets again to get his front feet cleaned and nails trimmed but could having these clumps cause any other symptoms such as swelling, numbness to the little toes or even somehow breaking the toes? Before we take him to the vets we would like to know what could be possibilities if there is something worse as a result. It doesnt seem to bother him at all but is painful to wash off (we've had them cleaned off at the vets before - this also must mean that there is feeling in his toes still, surely). It's just that when i took a look, i could manipulate his toe quite abit. Could he have lost feeling because of the clump or is this normal of guinea pig toes? Please help

i've heard that a vet puts a injection right through the Hamster's heart when euthanesia (sp.?) and it hurts them qite a lot. also it says most pets keep there eyes open. i wantmy hamster's eyes closed. if they aren't closed i wont be able to bury her because i'd have this weird instinct that she's still alive. would it be costly - don't mind paying, or do the vets do this anyway?

I am curious to know who your rat would pick you or his cage ? My rat picks the cage everytime and i want to see if thats normal or is he just obsessed with his cage . Stand beside your cage with rat inhand and let go and see where the rattie rat ends up. Its either you or its cage.

which should i get? i've done research over a span of a few months on rats. i've always been interested in rats and now that my family has stopped moving, i thought it would be the perfect time for me to get them as pets. when i went to ask people in my area that know about rodents, they suggested degus as a possible choice of pets. they explained to me that: rats will stink without a cage cleaning at least once a week (which i knew already) and that degus tend to live longer- around 8-10 years. degus are only sold in pairs because they are very social, which would cost $50 dollars without a cage and necessities. after all initial costs, i would be spending around $135. rats are a bit cheaper, and though i know that they are at risk of health issues (tumors), they have always been a #1 choice because of their loving, gentle personalities. my issue with money is that i have enough to spend over a period of time (on food, etc), but not all at once (as with degus). please help me choose!

Anyone know of any breeders in the us that ship their jerboas...also, how much does it cost, not including the cage and accessories, just the jerboa

First off, I live in Tunisia, so I don't have access to all the fancy bedding available for pets. I need something basic.

I have 2 guinea pigs. I bought a starter kit (cage, bedding, food) when I was in the US over the summer. I had to change their bedding because it was dirty and definitely time to be changed. I couldn't find the same type of bedding for them that came with their cage, so we are using hay. Only problem is that since I put they hay in with them, they smell! Is there anything else that I can use as bedding that will not smell? My husband said that if I can't find a solution for the smell he is going to get rid of them, and my son is absolutely heartbroken over the thought of losing them!

She managed to crawl out of the top of her cage the first time, the other times she's gnawed on the plastic tubes she squeezes through. She also chews on the bars to the door of the cage after she's been let out for a little. Is she just enjoying the taste of freedom and wanting to wander again, or am I missing something else?

I hate how people are like ewwww you have a rat thats gross and stuff like that. I have two rats and they are great pets. If they're in the "rodent" section i would think that they would find questions about rats! How do all of you rodent owners feel.

I am just wondering why people buy small animals like rodents. Please do not think that I am insinuating this is wrong. I have always been more of a dog/cat person.
