You don't.

Sorry, gerbils chew. It's instinctive for them to do "housekeeping" on the tubes. You can't stop them.

Replace the tubes as needed.

The best way to stop anyone or anything from chewing anything is to take a cotton swab and rub nailpolish remover all over it, and bam! Os soon as they put their mouth on it they will never want to again(it tastes really gross). Thankyou and goodnight folks.

I think of the stairs are created from plastic? Plastic isn't good for gerbils, as that's deadly if ingested. in case you have chunk toys and he remains chewing he plastic, i think of you will ought to get a sparkling cage (a extensive fish tank or a gerbilarium is ideal) or a metallic ladder (larger puppy shops). My sisters gerbils did the comparable along with her cage - she bought the cage and gerbils from the comparable puppy shop - she envisioned the cage to be appropriate fo gerbils because it replaced into the single the puppy shop proprietor reccommended. it rather is suprising what share puppy shops supply the incorrect advice. properly my sisters gerbils chewed the ladder, rung by employing rung, till it got here in 0.5 and there replaced into no ladder left to upward push up with. properly they only jumped! additionally, my gerbils used to chunk the bars of my gerbilarium even in spite of the undeniable fact that that they had chunk toys. i bought them a mineral stone (from around 99p from puppy shops/Wilkinsons), and that they stopped chewing the bars. significant: brush aside the undesirable advice to furnish gerbils as a lot "sparkling carrots sparkling celery sparkling potatoes to chunk on" never supply gerbils uncooked potatoes. and not supply them as a lot fruit or veg as they could chunk on. supply them a small volume 2-thrice according to week, not greater. each and every merchandise, supply them around as much as they could carry of their arms at a time, and remember, basically thrice according to week max (2 circumstances is ideal).

One thing you might try is putting vaseline on the edges where they chew. They won't like the feel of it nor the taste of it so they may leave it alone. I know it keeps chickens from pecking each other also.

They are going stir-crazy and becoming ill from boredom. Personally I would just let them go but the least you should do is let them out more often.
