yes i was looking at pictures online and it looks to be a squirrel. Ive been feeding him every couple of hours and he made it through almost 48 hours so far...i sure hope he makes it. He is very active but he sleeps alot too. Im not sure whether i need to take him to the vet of not. the only thing different i noticed was these 2 little dots ( look like small skin tags, same color as skin) not sure what those are?

Not sure luv, but he's gonna need 24/7 care if he's gonna survive. Thing is, if you take him to the vet and he turns out to be a rat, the chances are they're not gonna be too fussed if he survives or not. I would suggest making sure he is kept warm (depending on the weather where you are - you don't want him to overheat). Also, if you put some water on your finger and try to drip feed it into his mouth. I'm not sure about food, I'm gonna copy the pic to 2 of my friends who are training to be vets and see what they say. Good luck luv, please let me know how he does xxx

My vet friend says the following:

looks like mite be a rat or mouse or something like that judging from the tail. how long is it? where did u find it?
usually t vets will want to euthanase it as if it is a rat is technically vermin.
if u wanna keep it alive best bet is to keep it warm, get some substitute animal milk e.g. lactol from a vet/petstore or cows milk will do for a little while.
ul probabky need a smallish syringe to give t milk, make sure its heated and use a small piece of damp cotton wool to wipe it bum n genitals to get it to go to the loo.
if it is a small critter like a mouse, it may die anyway so dont worry if it does...and remember to wash ur hands each time after touchin it...just in case.

I think that it looks like it is a baby squirrel, it is very young though, and since it doesn't have fur, it may not survive, don't feel bad if it doesn't. After it's hair grows in, it is more likely to survive. Good luck, and I'm glad it is going well so far.

I'm 99% sure it's a baby squirrel. Call a local vet for the number of a rehabber--they should be pretty easy to find. Keep him warm until they come for him.

most definately a baby squirrel, the claw are too long to be a rat, and its just a squirrel trust me. if you want it to live you NEED to take it to a vet, they'll probably let you keep it if you want, but if you cared enough to save it from the cat, you should care enough to take it to a vet, it wont live without it's mommy, unless you take it to a vet.

i agree with the person above me, looks more like a squirrel than a rat... i've worked with rats for over 7 years now and this isn't really what they look like as pinkies.

Looks like a baby rat/mole. Bring it to a vet office or something because it doesn't seem like it is going to last without its mommy.

Looks like a baby rat...but very young. sorry to say but it probably wont live long w/o its mom since it has no fur and its eyes are closed.
