do animals actually say something when they "cry" or do they just make noise but it means something (eg: a cat can mew if it wants to go out but is it saying 'let me out' or making a sound signalizing that it wants to go out)?
I don't know if you understand what i'm trying to ask or not but i really hope you do...

I cleaned out our terrarium last night and guess I missed a tree frog when I changed plants. My daughter found him 7 hours later in her room. He is now not hopping correctly and has irregular breathing. I have tried warming him and offered him food as well a wet his skin. Is there anyhting more I can do?My daughter is watching him nonstop and Im afraid he isnt going to make it.

Why is it that people let their animals run free? There are so many dangers in this. People dislike stray cats and harm them. Dogs get poisoned and ran over by cars, and the list goes on. It really doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I've always just fed my animals dry cat/dog food on a regular basis. Occasionally, I give them a treat of moist food, or soft food. I just purchased some soft and hard mixed dog food and my dog loves it. I guess I'm not sure why people feed their animals moist food as well as hard, or just moist food. I heard that moist food is bad for their teeth. What is your thoughts?

Why is it that people always jump on each other (including me) for the way they view their pets?
I am an animal lover, I have had many pets all my life. My pets are spoiled rotten, they are fed, bathed, they have toys to their hearts content, all the love and petting they could ever want, but I do not forget that they are ANIMALS.
People seem to get so offended when I don't put my pets on the same level as me. No, they do not NEED routine medical checkups (heck, I don't even get routine medical checkups). No, I don't feel bad if my dog sleeps in a crate and not in my bed. No, I don't see a problem in sedating or crating a hyper animal under certain circumstances.
There is a HUGE difference between animal cruelty, and treating your pet like an animal. When did it become so common to treat our pets like little people? Hasn't anyone ever been on a farm??

I like to give my rats plenty of options when it comes to things to play with, they have a big cage with lots of climbing space, 2 wheels, a plastic igloo, a basket to sleep in/chew on, I give them cut up towels and gift basket paper to make beds out of, empty cardboard boxes to destroy, etc.

What are some other creative things I can give them to play with? I have to get creative and go to places like the dollar store and walmart because even big pet stores lack in inventory when it comes to toys for rats. (atleast around here )

we just got 2 rats today. they are both females. we have them in a 10 gallon tank and the top add on part. so its like 4 stories for them. we have them the wood treats, food and water. and a little thing to hide under.. well the one rat plays around in that box thing and on the bottom. and the other will just set at the very top level with her eyes open.. why could she be doing this? she is grooming her self and everything but we are not sure if she is eatin or drinkin anything. could she be under stress? we picked her up, and she didnt want to be picked up or held but the other one is fine with being picked up or held...am I over reacting or what should I be worried about the rat? I mean she isnt lonely she has company.

it was a strange situation (read about it in my other question), but pretty much if i didn't adopt him he was going to die.
i either want to name him oscar and call him ozzie, or name him lucky (because he was lucky i saved him!)
i already have 7 pets and their names are holly, lacey, chloe, sunny, smeagol, kiara, and chico.
which name (ozzie or lucky) fits best and sounds best?

They are both male and have been together for a long time...if one dies should I let the other see/smell/"investigate" his body? I know this is sometimes true with bonded rabbits but was wondering if it's the same with guinea pigs? He did die from an illness and the vet told us to keep them seperate until he got better (if). Would the illness still be transferable and therefore dangerous to the healthy one? Thanks.

Why, when people ask about breeding, EVERYONE says dont be a breeder, go to the shelter and get an animal.
Obviously these people are doing research to decide if they want to be a breeder or not.
And if everyone went to the shelter, there would be no animals left (obviously) and then there would be no one to actually breed the purebreeds and they would die of extinction.
I am just sick of seeing "go to the shelter to get an animal". We all know that they are there.

I have a dog (part chow, part husky - very friendly), and a ferret. As of yet, they are not integrated. The ferret has her own ferret-proofed room, and we let her roam free in it.

We've let the dog have some supervised time hanging out in the ferret room when our ferret is in her cage. They both seem interested in each other, but we're nervous about actual out-of-cage interaction... mostly due to size difference and doggy exuberance. When we're not there to supervise, the dog is not let into that room.

Does anyone have any helpful tips for us to get the dog and ferret more acquainted with each other, to get along and maybe even play safely together?
