Or,

Rats don't get colds, rats get Mycoplasmosis.

Myco starts with sneezing. Left untreated it quickly developes into pnuemonia, and I'm afraid it sound like your rat has reached this stage. Your ratty needs to see a vet asap. Among the other drugs that the vet might prescribe to treat myco, Baytril and Doxycycline are the antibiotics of choice.

Myco can be a silent killer. You would never suspect that anything is going on in the lungs. Rats are stoic animals and they will not show any signs of illness until it becomes serious.

All is not lost. I would be glad to help you through this.

How old is the rat?
All domestic rats have a disease called Mycoplasmosis to one degree or another. Young rats can usually fight it off but older ones ... they need some help.
If this is myco, (red discharge from the eyes/nose (porphyrin), and sneezing) there are a number of antibiotics you can use.
Tetracycline
Tylosin
Gentamicin
Amikacin
Chloramphenicol Palmitate
Chloramphenicol Succinate
Doxycycline
Enrofloxacin (works even better when used in conjunction with Doxycycline)
There is no actual cure.

Your rat is very sick and needs to get to a vet immediately. It is probably a respitory infection due to mycoplasmosis, but must get antibiotics to live. Do it NOW.

hi, i think rats easily catch colds, try 2 keep his cage warm and dry, he does not sound real well,, if u can he probally should go to a vet, i think that is the only way he will get better. it probally has a lot to do with the weather changing all the time. good luck and i hope he gets better,, just keep him dry and warm and make sure he drinks some water .
