sciolism is incorrect. A donkey is produced by breeding 2 donkeys and a horse is produced by breeding 2 horses. If a male donkey is mated with a female horse you get a mule and if you mate a male horse with a female donkey you get a henney.

Genetically the two are very close but not identical much like a lion and a tiger.

They look similar, they don't always act similar.
Horses can be loving and like to be around people.
Donkeys don't always like to be around people, the seem to like to be alone or with other donkeys. Donkeys are also used as pack animals, where horses could never carry that kind of weight.
