Hi Ali, Way to go and thanks for caring about dogs! We definetely need more of that. For starters, I recommend you go spend some time at your current local animal shelter. Try http://www.petfinder.com to find one. That way, you can volunteer and help animals all the while learning things you may want to use later. It also may be wisest economically for you to devote yourself to an already existing shelter. Consider they already have land, facilities, etc. You could become very involved and make a humongous difference that way too. Try going to http://www.aspca.org and clicking on ASPCA Community. If you register there you can post threads. The people there are real about caring for animals, they'll have some great ideas too. Hope it works out, for now I recommend devoting yourself to an existing shelter.

Just go online and type in whatever you want to know, there are countless resources. Check out Bob Barker's Snap, there are grant after grant you can get. I would suggest you volunteer at a local no kill shelter or SPCA to begin to understand what you are getting into. It is hard work to run a kennel and requires lots of people and lots of money. Finding animals in need is easy. I volunteer for a local SPCA. We started our own chapter here-all volunteer. To start I suggest you find a lawyer, accountant or CPA, and at least one benefactor ready to donate. You have to become a nonprofit organization with the IRS-that's why you line up an accountant and then if you want to incorporate-that's why you have the lawyer-and there are fees for everything-that's why you have a benefactor. You get an employer identification number (EIN)from the state of your choice. If you are going to sell anything, you have to get a sales tax number and learn how your local laws apply to you-go to the state comptroller's office and now you are set up. At this point you can apply for grants-free money-for the project of your choice. It's much more than a full time job even with lots of other volunteers. Good luck.

Volunteer at local shelters and for local rescue groups - that will give you an idea of what sort of challenges exist for something like this... and it lets you help the animals while you do it!

This depends on where you live.
Australia, England USA.

Most local councils have dog shelters.

You will need to get approval from your near nieghbours (barking etc)

Check out your local council if they already have one. Many of them are desperate for volunteers.
