I've narrowed my pet choice down to either a chinchilla or a guinea pig (or possibly a rat). What are the differences between a guinea pig and chinchilla as far as care/cost/cage size/cleanliness, etc. Which would be friendlier? Im really looking for animal that likes to be held and played with.

I really REALLY want a pet. I am 23 so I am responsible enough to care for an animal by myself. Because of my living situation, I am not able to have a cat or a dog right now and I don't want a bunny. I need something that can be in a cage most of the time but I would prefer something that I can pet and play with sometimes too. I would be ok with a lizard or reptile of some sort, but I would like one that is vegetarian (Ive had cricket-eating lizards before and it's a pain to feed the crickets and gut-load them and all that stuff). I don't have a lot of time so I'd like a pet that is fairly low-maintenence. Also, I don't want an animal that is really smelly. Cost isn't really an issue. I was thinking maybe a chinchilla or a guniea pig. Any thoughts or ideas?

The lesson horses at my barn just got microchipped. Me and my friend were wondering why. They normally don't show out of state and they mainly don't go too far away from the barn all at once. So why would the owner of the barn get them microchipped?

Once when I was cleaning my hamster's cage he went up and chewed on the tissue paper. I though he was just playing with it so i ignored, but later I found out that he ate quite a bit. Maybe he didnt eat it, but he stuffed it into his mouth. Is he eating it? Will it be harmful? If he isnt eating it, what is he going to do with it?

I was watching tv the other day and i saw this lady who had several Lions and Tigers on her property and she had been injured by some of them. I think she was charging people to come take pictures with them or something. Some of the people who were posing with the big cats got hurt also. Why are people so stupid? I've seen on tv where people have Racoons, Pythons, Wolves, Big cats, Bears, and all sorts of wild animals as pets. Why would i want to own something that can kill me in the blink of an eye? Wild animals are so unpredictable and so dangerous. Why risk your life and the lives of others by owning one? Can some one shed some light on this for me cause i really don't understand this at all. I think it's insane!

I am looking for a pet that:
1) I can just leave my office table
2) it mustn't jump off the table to kill itself!
I am thinking of Gecko but it would climb to everywhere... Turtle will walk off the edge of the table... Cat will obviously runs out... Hamster will walk off the edge... so????

I recently went into a pet store asking to see their rats and they wouldnt let me see them because they were feeder rats. I want one as a pet... I already have two of them. So next time i go in there can i just be like i need two rats or something like that? Are they the same as pet rats? If i ask for baby rats will they give me the ones that are pink and not old enough to be weaned? Please let me know. Thanks.
