both will sleep with their legs folded or flat on their side. They lay down pretty much the same although cows may get on their knees first. The difference is the way they get up, horses get up front first cows, deer, and goats get up hind end first.

Generally cows lie with their legs folded under them, their calves sometimes lay flat on their sides. I don't remember seeing any of our cows lying flat on her side unless she was very sick or dead. Horses can sleep either lying down (sometimes flat on their sides or with their legs folded under them) or standing up. I have read that horses have to have some lying down time for REM sleep but mostly sleep standing up as it is hard for them to breathe laying down.

I have horses, my neighbor has cows
when cows lay down its not flat out or at least I havent seen that
the horses sleep standing or laying flat out on their sides, espeically on sunny days

One lays down, the other stands....but I can't remember which is which!
I think cows stand, which is why mischievous people around here go "cow-tipping" late at night.

horses have the ability to lock their knees so they can sleep standing up. cows must lie down to sleep.

there are some cows that are across the street from my school and they are always sleeping with their legs crossed underneath. Horses sleep with their legs folded underneath them

As far as I know, ther is no diffrence. I only own horses, we used to own cattle but I was only 6 or 7.
