Dogs - August 2007

I want a puppy from a shelter but my mom does not want any dog, because she does not think i am responsilbe how can i show her i am.I need to prove it to get a puppy and i want one sooooooo bad so does anione know of a way to get her to let me have one.

I have a 15 year old Pug. He can't walk now and he can't hear. If he doesn't see us in the room, he cries. He goes to the bathroom where he sits, so I lift him up, and take him outside, and squeeze him until he goes. He eats just fine - in fact, that's the highlight of his day. He goes to the vet at least once a year, but there's nothing too serious wrong with him. He's been my best friend for so long, and I love him so much, but now I have two young children, and they also require a lot of attention. My wife wants to put him down, but I'm having a hard time with it. I don't think his life is going to get any better, and other than eating, I don't think he enjoys anything. Is it time to put him down?

I've seen why people distrust PeTA, but a cursory glance at the HSUS website hasn't revealed to me what is so wrong with them. Can anyone explain?

BTW - I'm from the UK, I know virtually nothing about them - I've just seen so much vitriol aimed at them on this site and I'm interested to know why.

My dog is papered, I KNOW what she is, saw both parents on site, so I don't have any doubts--Other people uneducated in her breed, DO have doubts though...
What I'm trying to see is what the general public thinks she is.
Only those familiar with the traditional line of her breed, will know for sure what she is, but it's still going to be interesting to see what people say.

Is it bad to give dogs treats when you are training them to heel? at petsmart we werent alowed to use the clicker/treats when heeling and its the only thing my dog cant do.

when i have treats he pays attention to me when were walking...

one time i was walking my dog gretchen on the side walk and it was just her and i. all of a sudden this irish setter comes out of nowhere at us snarling and barking. i was frozen in fear. she put her back feet on mine and let out the biggest and 1st bark i had ever herd her do. luckly the owner called the dog back. she was so loyal and brave! do you think this was a small act of dog bravery and loyaltly?

after you brush your dog collect all the unwanted hair, put it in a pile in your garden or yard ( not when its raining) now watch the birds come and get it...they use it for thier nests..how warm and cosy are those baby birdies gonna be? lol

I know all of the health risks etc but strays can not pick it up. The vast majority of owners clear up instantly with their little poo bags. Leave our dogs alone and pick on humans who leave litter of all desciption. This will set some tongues wagging! am i bovvered?

Starting about a week ago my 4 month old golden retriever will not eat unless I am within a couple feet of him. His routine has not changed or his food - he gets a lot of attention and exercise from my husband and I. Previously he would eat even if we weren't in the house - now he won't eat unless we're right by him - even if he can see us but we're further than a few feet he won't eat. Any ideas what would cause this? We have tried leaving him and seeing if he goes back later to eat but he doesn't.

Is a heavy shedding dog like a samoyed or a keeshon really that terrible to have in an apartment? How bad is it? Is there a way I can remove the hair so it doesn't end up on my carpet?

i was brushing her and noticed some dry skin and mabe some dandruff. i know that dry skin could lead to that, how do i stop it. I want to grow her hair longer, so what can i do to keep it healthy. i wash her once a week and condition also. She gets gromed mabe every 6-8 wks. If you know of any web sites please list. I have a pregnant dog. I have only had her for about a month. She only looks fat while laying down on her side which she does often now. She has been lacting since August 2nd. It was like all watery, now it is white. Yesterday she started 'nesting' her temp is at 99.3 F. she used to curl up while sleeping, now she streches. I have a whelping box made, but I dont know when to expect it. How can you tell if a pregnant dog's vulva is dialated for labor? Please help ASAP

We have a Kelpie who has had 7 pups. She has been a great mum up until the last few days. She is becoming a bit aggressive with the pups and is not letting them feed as often. I am worried that she is going to hurt one of them. We have just started to seperate the pups from her for a few hours at a time but she seems to be even more aggresive with them sice doing so. Is this normal and what can we do?

She got her rabies shots the next day, so I don't know if observing her would help, but she's not acting weird or anything.

I got anti-rabies shots around a year and 3 months ago when another puppy bit me.

I've researched and they say non-bites don't usually require anti-rabies shots but my mom is paranoid and insists that I ask people.

Does anyone know what this could be? They sort of started off as red spost and turned black. He is outside mostly and I bathe him once a week and use baby shampoo and also Sergeants tick and flea shampoo for fleas as he constanly plays with stray cats. I use Frontline on him but doesn't seem to do anything for the fleas. Someone told me to use Avon Skin so Soft, so I just tried that this week and see if it repells the fleas.

Will these black spots go away? They started at the bottom of him belly and when I bathed him on Saturday I noticed they are now all over his back too. Not sore or raised, just flat black spots.

He is white and brown/gold.

Please help!

We think she may be pregnant! we brought her to the vet and took x-rays but no puppies. the doctor said just because we dont see them doesnt me there not there.
She has white discharge, she has a change in mood. And she is very fat fatter then i have ever seen a dog. If you have any answers for me please i need to kno if this is serious or if she is just pregnant. This isnt the time to diss me what has happend is irreversible so no negativity please and thanks very much.
