What is your definition of responsible? Are you older than 12? Pups are a 24/7 responsiblity. Does your mom have to remind you to clean up your room and help around the house? If she does then you are not responsible enough for a pup! Being responsible means that with correct teaching ( and I am sure your mom has taught you how to clean your room) that you would be able to take care of anything without being reminded.

My mom told me she didn't want me to get a puppy. Not because I'm not responsible because I am but, because the fact that she just didn't want one.
Since I work I had my grandma bring me to the shelter and I picked out a Border Collie Mix home. My mom came home & there she was. She wasn't to happy but, she got over it. She says it's not her dog but she'll act like it is which pisses me off. I suggest you get a job (If old enough) pay for your own dog. I pay for my dogs shots, getting spayed, food, toys, & kennel. I take her outside. I feed her. It's my boyfriends & my dog.
Oh, and if you get a dog. I suggest www.petfinder.com. Thats where I found my local pet shelter & adotped my 11 week old Border Collie Mix, Maddie!

It is very good that you want a shelter puppy because they never were truly loved. But the best way to show your mom your responsible enough is to, do chores. Vacuum carpets, do dishes, clean up around the house. That shows that you are willing to do anything for that puppy. And then one night go to your mom and say "Hey Mom, can I please have a puppy from the shelter? I promise I will take care of it. (If you get allowance say this next part:) 'I'll buy all of its food.' Also, ill care for him so much! ill let him out to go to the bathroom whenever he needs to go. ill also clean up his poop."
Do not beg!! say it in a calm way while staring into her eyes. this worked for me and most importantly...KEEP YOUR PROMISE!!

It didn't hapen to me but when I was younger a friend wanted a pup too, she too had to show she was responsible, so she volunteered on weekends at the spca shelter, caring for the dogs and cats, she saw how much work it took and eventually was able to get one.

You have to prove to her that you are responsible. Remember, taking care of a puppy means having to take them out when they need it, giving them food and water, training them, cleaning up their messes, etc. It's a lot of work, and she needs to be shown that you will be the one doing it, not her. Do your chores, and even those you aren't required to do, but ones you know will help others. Take care of your current responsibilities, and she may decide you're ready for another one. Good Luck!

be more responsible and do everything your mom wants and keep it up for about 5 years. That is how I got my dog.
