She was definantly protecting you. My dog, she's now passed away, jumped infront of me when a pitt bull rushed out from a back yard to me. He luckily grabbed her by her thick neck scruff. I must say, she knew she wouldn't even have a chance against him, but she put herself infront of me. She was a shy blue heeler. It took me punching the dogs head, breaking my hand, to get the owner out and to get this fu*ker of a mutt!! Dogs are so loyal, even risking their own lives.

Yes I do I think if the owner of the irish setter didn't call their dog back your dog would have fought to protect you from the other dog. Dogs are loyal creatures which is why so many people love them so much.

In my opinion yes, i sure do thing she was a pretty brave dog to do her best to protect you. She seems like a loyal dog and really loves you. She wasn't scared and didn't run off because of a bigger dog coming out and snarling at her.She stood her grounds and protected you. She sensed that you were scared and she did her best to protect her owner. She seems like a pretty brave dog to me.Lucky to have such a great and brave dog :) Kelly

Of course it was!!! Dogs are the most well okay, almost the most loyal. Will get arguments from other types of pet owners for saying that. But they really are loyal and so willing to please. They do know instinctively when you are feeling "afraid" and yes, will often put themselves between you and your fear. I had a German Shepherd who would circle my husband and myself while walking, no dog was allowed within 10 feet of us. And these were the dogs he played with. Also, during menstration: he firmly placed himself between my husband and me. Husband used to get ticked off at this, but he was one of the most protective dogs I ever owned. They sense when you need help. Another dog of mine, when I broke my ankle, ran repeatedly between me and the window to alert my husband to the trouble. Then when the ambulance came, she wouldn't let them near me. Had to put her in the house. Amazing what they will do. Good luck to you and your new protector.

(actually our dog just scared the hell out of someone who was walking thru our yard, they weren't supposed to be there)
Anyways dogs rule!!!
