The carpal pad toe nail is part E at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paw. I am asking if this is serious enough to see a vet because I am short on cash and am hoping the toe nail will finish coming off on its own or if it requires a doctors visit. He is already super hyper also and it is a major pain to calm him down. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

The pet shop told me that the chihuahuas had already been there for a week? That would make them 5 weeks old??? Isnt that a little too young to be taken away from mommy?? They seem to be doing fine tho

My husband and I just adopted 2 German Shepherd/Chow Chow mix, 3 month old puppies. They are sisters but 2 different looks: one is blonde haired, small and looks almost like a Lab puppy but has the curling Chow tail. The other one is a little larger, has the coloring of a black & tan Shepherd but has the purple tongue evident in the Chow breed. They are sweet and rambunctious like all puppies and they know who their "parents" are. We want them to be social and around people but I don't know what their temperments will be when they get older. Anyone have any ideas/comments?

How can I stop my australin shepherd from chewing up everything? He gets walked sometimes twice a day and gets played with all day and i also have another dog who plays with him too ,so he has a pretty active day but as soon as we leave to go out or even if i go upstairs for too long ill come down to a huge mess of him destroying something. Can you train a dog not to be less destructive ,I dont know if there is help for that but if you could i would like to know how,Would a dog training school help with this because this is the only problem we have with him other than this he is very good but my carpet and furniture or whatever he feels like chewing up is costing me way to much.He is 8 months and just got him nutured.

I want it to be : friendly, not the one that I've heard it bites his owners when it grows big, playing tipe, not skinny and not small, to protect the house, easy to be trained by myself, not to stay in the house in the winter when it's very cold...

I have a very active border collie who LOVES to chew (last night she loved a nerf football to pieces). She doesn't seem to be interested in chewing on anything she's not supposed to but I'd like to keep providing her with things she can safely gnaw on. The little Purina rawhide bones last about 2 minutes. Anyone have any suggestions?

My two Jack Russells start howling the moment they hear my footsteps coming up the path. (It's so deafening, it actually sounds more like 16 dogs). When I come in they continue for about 5 minutes. I have tried ignoring them when they do it, but they just keep going. I've also tried giving them affection, but they yip and yap through it all. For a while I tried picking one of them up, and it worked for about two weeks, but now they continue howling even in my arms. We walk them twice a day and exercise them by playing soccer with them for about 20 minutes every day. They are 12 and 9 years old. I know they are just happy to see me, but it's embarrasing (I'm sure everyone in a one-block radius knows when I have gotten home from work). Anybody have any ideas?

I adopted a 1 year old dog from the ASPCA last week. She seems like a smart enough dog, but she is ALWAYS looking for food when she has the chance. I've been crate training her to get her housebroken, and she behaves in the crate (so I can at least be thankful for that), but when I let her out in the house or take her on a walk, she's always looking for food instead of going to the bathroom.

Should I be feeding her more (I add a tiny bit to what the bag says / feed her twice a day)? She focuses on the sound of plastic bags (she associates them with food) and always wants to climb up on my kitchen counters. It's tough to get her to even respond to me when food enters the equation.

I'm going a bit nutty trying to deal with her. She seems like a sweet dog underneath all of her behavioral issues (she also is a bit mouthy and chews on me). I wish she could focus on something other than food. I guess it might be just a matter of time until she settles down and realizes I won't starve her.

This was the largest dog I have ever seen. He stood about 3 feet tall maybe more. He had long, shaggy, sandy-colored hair (almost dreadlocked). He had a stocky body and face, not skiny like a greyhound. He could have been a type of mastiff but what type? I I have searched for pictures and have not found any. If you know of good dog websites with a comprehensive list of pics, that would be very helpful.

I've been reading up alot on puppies and dogs since we are getting a new puppy. But I am confused on this. I am going to be feeding our puppy science diet her whole life and that is what the breeder is currently feeding her. I have read that puppies can get some of their vitamins from vegetables and that peanut butter once in a while is ok. Also that they need protein but not too much. Will she get what she needs from Science Diet or should I sometimes be giving her cooked vegetables or peanut butter. May sound like a stupid question which could be why sometimes too much information is not good. (I've read so so many different books and web articles I am getting confused)
I know some people feed their dogs table scraps but that is not something I choose to do with ours. I just want to make sure she is getting all that she needs.

Please help and serious answers only please. THANK YOU!!

I've tried several methods of stopping this. The vet recommended tapping him on the muzzle and saying loud and in a deep voice No, but that doesn't stop him! He runs around the house in circles, and 'spazs' out!! He barks at me at pulls and nips on my arms, never hurting me but it's a behavior I want to stop since we have children in the house. He's an Austalian Shepherd, 3 yrs. old, and neutered. Most the time he's very calm and is well trained otherwise! We rescued him from a horrible shelter, and we take plenty of walks, he's got lots of toys and things to chew on, gets lots of attention. I've also tried ignoring him. Any ideas on what I can do to stop this or why he does it? Thanks!!

I LOVE them, i think they are wonderful pets. I will someday own one, when i get a house, and move out of this appartment. I have honestly Never met a pit bull who didn't like people. The only thing is that i've seen a lot of them don't like other dogs. But most of the ones i have met are well socialized and love Everyone and Everything. But my parents, and a few other people i know think that pit bulls are always terrible dogs, and never give them a chance. They believe that every pit bull will turn on its owners and attack them. I know this is not true. I was just wanted to hear your opinions.
