I need to know how many different breeds of dog there are

OMgosh, check out the AKC, for showmanship/breeds, check out your local shelters for abandoned "MUTS", check out different countries for what they consider a breed is/ and or pet. And last there are so many sites for our best friends. Yahoo and Google, but mostly why do you need to know this? I had a dog that I researched for almost 3 years before I decided what kind of breed was ok for me and my lifestyle

There are a great VARIETY of dog breeds. There are over 400 different breeds recognized by FCI.

Between the AKc & UKC there are 350 recognized breeds.
