We clip the nail back as close as possible and dip it in Quick-Stop to stop the bleeding or cauterize it.
Then most vets will give antibiotics for a few days at least to make sure you do not get major infectinon.
My dog has done this a few times and I have been able to do it at home twice. Clip the calw back and the bleeding had already stopped. He did fine with out antibiotics. But one time he needed to be sedated to have the claw clipped back. It had splintered off and they had to pull out little shreds of claw.

i'd advise a vet bypass to. Like others have reported you're able to examine the paw pad in basic terms in case that's something like a thorn or splinter. with the aid of fact that's been 2 days and nonetheless bothering her then it's time to have her checked. An examination will demonstrate the place the soreness is and the vet will additionally watch her walk - now and lower back that on my own will provide a clue what could be incorrect. canine would properly be very obdurate now and lower back on letting you recognize the place they harm. as quickly as seen the vet would or would possibly no longer order an x-ray. maximum suitable subject is they'd prescribe drugs which will help with the soreness!

Clip the nail off and clean with peroxide, NOT alcohol. bandage and keep an eye on it for infection. At the FIRST sign get him into the vet. Signs of infection can be a bad smell, pus oozing, green color to the bandage and more than usual limping after walking ok for the most part. This is something you don't want to mess with, but you may be able to avoid a vet visit. Clean is the key.

Call your vet and explain what has happened. It's free. Explain that you are short on cash and that you don't want to come in unless you have to. They'll understand.
Please, don't take diagnoses of strangers on the internet. Strangers on here are FREQUENTLY wrong. This is not a veterinary website.
If he needs to come in, your vet will tell you. If you can't afford it, you'll have to bite the bullet and find a way. Vet care is part of the responsibility of owning a dog. If you can't afford minor emergency care for your dog, then it may be tie to rehome him.

Most of the time-the nail is clipped back the rest of the way and cauterized. The nail just hanging there can be quite painful and finsihing the job and getting it on its way to healing is better. We usually put a light bandage and give antibiotics for several days depending on the severity and if it has gotten infected.
