I have an almost 2-year-old golden retriever, and a huge fenced in yard that is about 3/4 of an acre. The fence is a good 3 1/2 feet high and my dog just recently learned how to jump it to go play with another neighborhood dog. I've tried keeping her on a long rope when this other dog is loose, but now even when the other do isn't out, she still jumps the fence when she is bored. I feel terrible about keeping her on a leash in her own yard. She is a purebred golden, very fast, and she can't even run around with a rope on.

As for training, I've tried training her on a leash with a choker collar. She behaves perfectly on the leash but when she's off the leash, even in her own yard, she is unruly and will not come immediatly when I call her. When she is loose, she will often turn around and run the other way if I tell her to "come". I would really prefer to not take her to a professional trainer, as it would be a strain on my budget. Any suggestions?

Serious answers only.

I have four puppies at 6 weeks old and they've just got their first shots. I was wondering how old do the puppies have to be or after how many shots will the puppy be immuned enough so that I can take them traveling (normal errand runs) without them getting all kinds of diseases? Or getting sick?

Someone I work with has put a collar on a 19 week old puppy because he doesn't come when called. I believe this is TOO young. I also suspect improper training on how to use this device . I am in a position to take the puppy from them. They "purchased" this AKC puppy from our litter but have not yet paid the $. I will reclaim the pup if I can determine the proper age to begin use of one of these collars. This is the final issue I have with this individual regarding this puppy. I have had other reasons to question the treatment of this pup. We thought he'd be given a good home, but now we aren't so sure. I hate to bring discord at work, but the puppy's welfare is of more importance. If you know the proper age (6 months at earliest??) or can give guidance, it would very much be appreciated

how do i convince my parents to get a dog? i want to get a small dog, like a maltese or cavalier king charles spaniel. my nanny doesn't like dogs but she just says that she is okay with it as long as she doesn't have to go near it. my parents already had a dog and they say that it is a lot of work and that i might not be ready. they claim i don't take care of my gecko! i DO pick up her poop and make sure she has food! ok, so i do have a pet, but she nocturnal, in other words, BORING!!!! please help me change their minds. it just kills me to see a dog, since i want one soo badly. and bye the way, they are stubborn! thanx

I was told that the Sire is brown and the same height as the Mother. The Mother comes to my knee caps at the withers, (shoulders.) She is black and white. Has short hair. Is white with a large black spot on each of her sides. Black over the ears and eyes. The ears are medium, large and pointed. They first stick out to the sides then begin to droop to the sides. She has a short to medium length, slender muzzle, not long. A black nose. She also has little paint platter looking spots on her white coat. Some become more visible when she is wet. She has a medium length tail, pointed, slight curl, with short hair. Brown spots on her belly. And brown eyes, I think. She was one of 8 puppies, and all look like the Mother, whos coat is closer to medium, short though.

I heard a rumor that the cost of a Pure Bred Tibetan Mastiff would be about $40,000 +/-. Can anyone verifiy if this is true.

I heard the reason they are so expesive is because they come directly from the Tibetan monks. However, the monks do not sell them, they give them away as gifts and the people that get them, breed them with pure breds and sell the offsprings.

I am looking for a source to verify the cost of a purebred

My dog can walk on her front paws with her back legs up in the air (like a handstand). She seems to be able to do this for a very long time, whenever she wants to (like if her leash is tangled up in her back legs she'll do this to get herself free). How can I teach her to do this on command? Seems like it should be easy since I know she can do it whenever she wants, I just need to figure out how to make her want to! ;) Thanks!

My puppy got her 3rd round of shots last Thursday, not including the rabies. She is a pitbull mix I guess, and they say pitbull don't have a strong immune system. Does someone know when can I take her outside for walks??? I startedyesterday, but I go where there's not many feces around the grass, but this morning accidentally she was sniffing some old dog poo on the floor, at first I coulnd't tell it was poo, but when I got closer you could teel it was.
Let me know if someone knows how long I have to wait to take her out after her shots?

My 3 year old great dane was diagnosed with panosteitis about 4 months ago. He had a major flare up about a month ago and had to have a huge pain and anti inflammatory injection. He was in horrible pain. My question is to those who have dogs with panosteitis. Are all flare ups this intense? Will he have to have a pain injection with every flare up? Thanks for the info.

I have a male dog that weighs around 160 pounds, and we have a female dog that is 16 months old. If we allow them to mate is there a good posibillity that the male dog would hurt, injury the female dog's hips. Any information about hip injury with mating would be helpful. Thank you for looking at my question. :)

My puppy races across the yard and often tends to get yanked around as she reaches the perimeter of her tie out. Is there a safe harness that I can use to prevent her from yanking her head off?
