I heard a rumor that the cost of a Pure Bred Tibetan Mastiff would be about $40,000 +/-. Can anyone verifiy if this is true.

I heard the reason they are so expesive is because they come directly from the Tibetan monks. However, the monks do not sell them, they give them away as gifts and the people that get them, breed them with pure breds and sell the offsprings.

I am looking for a source to verify the cost of a purebred

They are a very rare breed, at least in the US. They have recently (or will be soon) been accepted for registration by the AKC. Being they are pretty rare they will be expensive, but certainly not anything like you were told! $2,000 maybe?

Please do not breed the mastiff mix to the pug, you are more correct than your friend. That said your friend can AI her dog or maybe she should just wait until her male is a little more mature. Also her female may not be in the right part of her season to be mated. That said, I really think she should look into what she is doing a little more, those puppies to be need someone who has some knowledge about what she is trying and how to care for them. In doing some research she will also find out why her male is having trouble and cure that situation. BTW anyone who suggest that a Mastiff will not cause birthing problems with a female pug HAS NO BREEDING EXPERIENCE. Shelter experience is NOT BREEDING EXPERIENCE. Many dams have C-sections and/or abort or have worse problems when bred to totally over sized males. Aside from that a decent sized Mastiff ain't going to mate a normal sized pug without some major damage through the matting alone! It is just plain foolishness to mate a dog that size with a toy.
