Totally depends on what type of hip surgery he had and when....as well as taking into account other physical and health factors he has.

The only person who can answer your question is your dog's surgeon. Please call and ask.

I would massage the muscles to keep good blood flow and to keep the dog from getting stiff or sores. Increased blood flow helps healing. I wouldn't try moving the affected leg(s) for awhile and let the dog set the lead on that one...when they move it a little on their own, I would gently move it to see how much it bothers them. When mine broke her back leg, it took five weeks or so to start acting normal and she was very active before. She lost muscle tone but that is something your dog will be able to get back later. I'd focus on your dog healing properly and being comfortable. You can do more strenuous stuff when it is able.

first person to ask? Your Vet. ( try putting the dog in a pool of water, AFTER THE STITCHES ARE REMOVED, support it from underneath with and towel or small sheet, let it slowly work the let that way ).
