my dog has heartworms and we need to treat him for it. the problem is during and after treatment the dog has to be kept still and calm for several weeks.
our dog is very energetic and loves to do laps in our yard.
there is NO WAY we can keep him still and quiet so i am wondering-
is it possible to give a dog sedatives during his treatment?
one vet i called said yes for sure, the other said no way thats too long for a dog to be sedated.
what gives? HELP!

when standing, the nails do not touch the floor. I want to cut them untill I don't hear the nails clicking on the floor because I have hardwood floors. is that OK or is that too short?

She goes in one area consistently, which I like, but in the summer it gets a little ripe. I pick up often but I think it's really soaked down over the years.

I'd like to find out what your prefered method of house training a puppy is. My 11-week-old dachsund puppy was trained by the folks who owned his mom to go on a hard, flat surface. This is a problem, b/c we have all hardwood floors and a gravel driveway. I'm so so sick of cleaning up puppy crap; please help me!

My Cinnamon died this morning leaving the 6 1 day old puppies. She apparently got a very aggressive infection. I kept calling the emergency vet clinic. They kept telling me it sounded normal. Even though I told them there was a dark blackish green stuff coming out of her… that smelled horrible. They kept telling me it was placenta. They told me it was all normal. She became lethargic last night. I just could not get her to really respond to me much. I brought her into another clinic and they told me she was very ill. She died at 4:30 ish this morning…..I really need some help. I don’t know how much the babies should be drinking from the bottle in one feeding… should I let them feed until they fall asleep… or should I stop them from feeding once they get so much. I know I have to stimulate their bowels. What else….. Please help me.

And please... no mean answers. I just spent 1200 trying to keep her alive. I admit.... my emergency ... and dog money have run out.

I just moved into a new neigborhood and have gotten no sleep since I moved in. Somewhere behind our house or to the side, there are 2 or 3 dogs that bark 24/7. During the day is fine but all night long and into the early morning they are outside and bark and bark and bark. Its driving me crazy!! I don't know exactly which house its coming from, so I cannot approach the neighbors, but like i said i just moved so i don't want to piss my new neighbors off by confronting them about their dogs. How should I go about this so I can get a good nights sleep??

My Boston Terrier puppy chases my 2 cats & jumps on thier head & all over my dog licking.., she wants to play soo bad but no one (but me) will play with her making her chase & jump even more trying to get them to play. She doesn't do this with dogs+ that play with her only to the ones who wont play. The cats are scared of her & run from being chased & jumped on, the cats dont play like that & my dog is a very mellow 10 yr old American Eskimo who doesnt realy play like she does, not sure if its because he never really did & doesnt have her energy, the breed or just cause he's older now. I realllly wish I could get him to play with others, he just likes his sqeeky toys. He's so mellow & doesn't want much to do with playing with the puppy. My cats used to sleep with me, lay on me & visit... we "were" very close! Since the puppy they want nothing to do with me & haven't slept with me since. How can I get them back? I miss them sooooo much it's not even funny! HELP!

My dog is a 7 year old rescued border collie that we have had for a year now. Recently we got a kitten as our cat died. We have had him for 4 months now. The first incident was the kitten charging up the stares and attacking the dogs face and the dog bit his ear, resulting in a vet trip and them both being in trouble as both are being trained to leave each other alone. Today the dog just randomly turned her head and bit his ear again while they we're both waiting to be fed (they are fed separately) which she has never done before. Normally the cat walks around her while eating and they are fine, and generally they sleep together and get along quite well. Any ideas what to do? The dog is getting Bark Buster lessons soon for some of her other behavior, so I am hoping something can be done as I don't want to get rid of either of them. We do have rabbits as well, but they are generally in the back yard well away and fenced off from the dog, so we don't know how she is with them... thanks!

so we've had this puppy less than a week, so i know whatever we need to do will take time, but she isnt letting us sleep!! we have a "play pen" for her, about 10 feet from the bed, with her bed and toys and pee pads and she's fine being in there to play and eat and just crash when we're sitting there watching tv, but as soon as we try to go to bed, she starts howling and crying. we tried to wait it out last night, but after almost 30 minutes we couldnt take it and brought her up on the bed. and she ended up peeing on the bed before morning. i know she needs to sleep in her own bed, and we cant just go get her when she's crying or else she'll never stop crying, but what can we do? we've even tried waiting until she was asleep but she woke up and starting crying anyways!! please help, i'm so tired....
