Have heard that clipping a Cairin Terrier hurts the coat, anyone ever try it?

Hi, I work as a groomer and can tell you that everyone is right--taking clippers to a terriers coat will ruin it. Instead of the harsh, wiry texture associated with most terriers, clipping results in the hair growing back soft, often with diluted color. The question is, does that really matter to you? It is getting increasingly difficult (at least in my area) to find folks who will still hand-strip for clients, and the fees are borderline exorbitant. A lot of groomers prefer to do it in two day chunks. You'll also have to make a huge commitment to come back every 4 weeks for the next session. You can learn to do it yourself, but it will take practice and patience, especially if you're starting with an older dog who hasn't been stripped before. Talk to your groomers or breeders if you want to pursue this option.

I use clippers to simulate the "Cairn cut" on a lot of pets in this area. While the coat quality may diminish, it is a quicker, less-expensive alternative and many people prefer to keep their pets this way, simply because of the cost, time, and commitment involved. Whether you decide to clip or strip, make sure you discuss the ramifications with the groomer you choose! Good luck!

They have to be stripped on a regular basis. Clipping will ruin the coat. If you want it to look like it should, of course.

If you do not know how to do this, contact a terrier (or wirehaired Dachshund) breeder in your area, many terrier breeds are stripped. They can show you how to do it correctly.

OK...sigh..YES!!!
Clippering *RUINS* a terrier coat! And they look like CRAP!

Reach down & yank a couple dozen hairs & LOOK at em.
See how all the color & texture is in the outside ends???
When you clipper, all you do is CUT OFF the good stuff & leave the soft, pale,NASTY part!!

When you HAND-STRIP,you pull out ALL the DEAD shaft & let brand new hair come in!
Uh..you gotta "pull the weeds so the FLOWERS can grow"!!!

And...it's C*A*I*R*N ,not carin or carn or KAREN(LOL!) or cairin.

My grandma gets her dog groomed all the time and he's 10 years old and has never had a problem with his coat.
