Once a week to bathe your dog is too much twice a month is appropriate. If in between baths your dog smells like a dog they do make doggie perfume sold at larger pet stores and groomers. You can also try a damp towel ...dampen a towel and rub it over the dog... rinse repeat till dog is cleaner. Also wet wipes for dogs or baby wipes work well too.
Brush your dog every day this will keep shed fur from getting matted and smelly.
If you live in an area thats weather appropriate buy your dog a baby pool to play in this will clean him some in between baths as well.

Dont give him that many baths, it'll make his hair fall out and will probably make him smell worse (wet dog smells bad). If you dont like the natural smell of a dog, try febreze but i would want to check with a vet to see if there is any chemicals in it that could be harmful.

Brushing removes a lot of dirt if done frequently. Also (rather than fabreze!!!) you can get a powder that you brush through the dogs coat. I use it on my dog when it's not necessary to bath her but we have friends coming over.
Frequent bathing will remove the dogs natural oils and can cause skin problems!

I've got a 75-pound Golden Retriever, and she only gets bathed about once a month. I use a vanilla-scented oatmeal shampoo (got it at Petsmart or Petco, don't remember which), and unless she gets into something unusual outside, she generally smells pretty nice.

They make scented grooming sprays. They also work as detanglers and can go on after a bath to kill the "wet dog" scent. Crazy Dog is a good brand

Bathing him is the best way to keep him smelling nice, however he doesn't need to be bathed weekly unless he gets really dirty. Brush his fur, cut off any matted fur. Also, keep his teeth clean by brushing them every so often, and feeding him milkbones. You can also buy "doggie wipes" (similar to baby wipes) for keeping his paws clean.

You can also take any lotion any rub it in on your hand then pet your dog. Or take a used dryer sheet (a new one might have to much smell and you don't want them to lick it off) and rub it over your dog. I wouldn't febreeze your dog because of all of the chemicals.

There is bottled shampoo without water that can be spread through his fur, used for cold weather. It contains deodorant suitable for a pet.
They do have "perfumed sprays" available.
My late wife used those on our dog. She's gone too.

You can buy wipes like baby wipes made especially for dogs also dry shampoo both are available from good pet stores, i would not think that fabreeze will do your dogs skin much good think i`d skip that idea.
