My Favorite breed is pit-bulls. They are loyal, good with kids, easy to train, good protectors, and have lots of energy. I live in a neighborhood that is not so good. Having them around makes me feel safe and protected. I also train them to do trick (roll over, sit, stand, jump). They also go through agility training and weight pulling; these sports get the aggression out of them by using up a lot of energy. I believe this breed has a good temperament. There are those people that give this breed a bad name but you should blame the owner not the dog. I love them and I don’t know what I would do without my babies.

This is a good question. All my life I thought I liked large dogs. We had Boxers, Shepards and Labs. For the most part they were fine. Quite by accident and because of a health problem if I wanted a dog it would have to be no shedding and all the hypo stuff. I didn't want to be without a dog. I started researching and comparing everything pertaining to the smaller dogs. I was always of the thought process that they peed all over and couldn't be housebroke. They appeared to be yappy little brainless animals.
I ended up with a Maltese puppy. Of course, you know what comes next. He has a personality I have never seen in a dog. It is more human than the big guys. The larger dogs are great but they guard, fetch, herd, all the macho stuff.
My guy would look at them and say, "and you do this, why?" He talks to me. He can actually make me understand what he wants. I won't ramble on but the point is in the total different personality types when it is tiny vs. large.........He is not hyper at all. If I nap, he naps, if I eat, he eats. He just does whatever we human staff do. I really don't think he knows he is a dog.
He has to go for surgery (neuter) and he can't understand why. He just discovered what that is and how to control it so he wants to show it to anyone that will look........When he brings it out I yell, "put that pee pee away. We don't want to see it!" He starts to draw it back in and I swear he gets a grin on his face and sticks it all out again.......I don't know why I shared that. I just think it is so cute.......
Did I help at all? They are usually more laid back dogs too. Not much of a guard dog, but that is not what you want anyway.
Good Luck to you. If you are searching, I really would spend some time with each breed. You want a forever friend that fits your lifestyle. That is the most important. Find a dog compatible with how you live and what you do........My Joseph knows when I pick up the car keys where we are going and what we will do when we get there. I hope your story turns out as well as mine...
OH! The housebreaking. He and his litter mates were trained to the piddle pads at two weeks old. The Maltese (and some of the others cannot be out in too hot or too cold weather because of their fur) They have like human hair and they do not have an undercoat to keep them warm. He is six months old now and still uses the piddle pads. I don't work so it doesn't bother me. I don't know if you would want to allow it to sit all day if you work.
He has never been crated even when I am away and he has NEVER chewed on anything except his own toys.
This is it, I promise......At night when we go to bed he sleeps with me or my daughter. He lays his head on a bed pillow like a person and lays on his back with all four legs up in the air. Then he waits for you to cover him with his blankie. Adorable or what???

I thinnk a boxer is the best breed (for me).
Character and Temperament
These are of paramount importance in the Boxer. Instinctively a hearing guard dog, his bearing is alert, dignified, and self-assured. In the show ring his behavior should exhibit constrained animation. With family and friends, his temperament is fundamentally playful, yet patient and stoical with children. Deliberate and wary with strangers, he will exhibit curiosity, but, most importantly, fearless courage if threatened. However, he responds promptly to friendly overtures honestly rendered. His intelligence, loyal affection, and tractability to discipline make him a highly desirable companion.

I have 2 Siberian Huskies, so I am partial to huskies. It all depends on what you are looking for in a dog. If you want a good family dog, huskies are great. If you want a watch dog, not so great. One of my huskies doesn't even bark when strangers walk by our house. If you want a dog that doesn't shed a lot, a husky is not for you - they shed enormous amounts of fur constantly. If you want a dog that is easy to keep fenced in - huskies are not for you. They are sometimes called "escape artists" or "Houdini", because of their amazing ability to fit through the smallest openings and escape from a yard. If you want a dog that is submissive, huskies are not for you. They can be very stubborn (both of mine are) by nature. They are also somewhat predatory by nature, and may kill small animals such as rabbits, squirrels, etc., and generally do not get along with cats. So, it really all depends on what you are looking for in a dog. Hope this helps!

I think labs are because they can adapt to any surrounding. You could be living alone or have a ton of kids and they are great with both. They are very protective of their family and lots of fun. They have so much energy and each lab I've encountered including my own has their own personality.

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel pup, so that would be my best breed. I also love Labradors.

The best breed is the one that meets your needs and that you love the most.
In my case, that'd be the German shepherd. Besides being all-purpose dogs, they are loyal, loving, intelligent, eaily trained. . .and GORGEOUS!
