Sometime in the far future (At least a couple years from now, if not more. I'm not sure when the timing would be, sometime after college likely) I want to get a conure, although I'm open to other species. I would be a beginner bird owner, but because I research things to death and I'm patient with animals I believe I could handle a medium-difficulty bird. And what I think I want most in a bird is one that with love to be handled anywhere, and that will snuggle and cuddle a lot and just sit with you for long periods of time.

So, people who've had lots of different kinds of parrots, in your experience which was cuddliest? :)

My sister's dalmation is going deaf according to the vet. He's 4 years old and already well trained, but she's going to have to re-train him to use hand signals "Sit" "Stay" etc..

Are there any good websites that you know of that might help with this?

We have a Chihuahua and this guy had told us that he is a Hammerhead Chihuahua because he is black and has a white "mask" around his eyes like a bindit. My parents wanted me too look a hammerhead chihuahua up but there is nothing when I research it. Is there such a thing as a hammerhead Chihuahua?

I have a 20 gallon saltwater tank - Set upfor about 5 months now. Cycled perfectly with Damsels and live rock. I replaced the damsels with a pair of tomato clowns. I use 2 Whisper 30 power filters and I have the CPR60 Protein skimmer. The water conditions seem relatively fine with a slight increase in nitrates and ammonia (thinking I may be still cycling). I have 10 lb's live rock and in addition to the clowns, I have a black sea urchin and a recently added sea anemone.

My Question is: The sea anemone is fed brine, krill mix and started out looking great for 6 days now. Today it looks retracted and no longer translucent brownish but rather a slightly shriveled greenish.

My lighting is only 2 15W flourescent. I suspect this is the issue but I would rather not go with an expensive and HOT metal halide (space and toddler concerns). WOULD A SIMPLE POWER COMPACT FLOURESCENT UPGRADE BE ENOUGH? Can you recomend the best option The tank is only 20" deep (24" long)? THANKS

I've never understood this- why do some dogs automatically think to jump up onto something when a human pats their hand on the object?

Why do people automatically assume the dog will do it (some dogs do not)? Why do we "pat the seat" to entice a dog to sit in a certain spot?

triggered by another question, everyone with half a brain knows that there's an overpopulation crisis and that thousands of dogs are being put down in shelters every day (both purebreds and mutts). This question is directed to breeders who claim to care so deeply for the dogs and yet contribute to the overpopulation by bringing more and more into the world when there are far more dogs than there are homes for. What are you doing to create balance? Are you taking action against backyard breeders? Are you requiring that all your pups be fixed? Are your purebreds going only to places where they are needed as service dogs? Are you doing other things, a combination? Or are you like most breeders I know who do nothing other than complain and say "it's not my fault" while they contribute to the overpopulation?

Feel free to rant but BEST ANSWER will go only to a BREEDER who is actually doing something sufficient.

I just bought a 55 gallon tank and would like to swith from freshwater to saltwater. I have the regular filter, lights, bubble curtain, and heater, but I am wanting to know if those are the right things that I would need, and what all else I am needing to get. If at all possible, can someone give me a rough estimate of about how much all those things would cost?

I just bought a 55 gallon aquaurium fish tank that came with all the bells and whistles, including lighted hoods. I thought that I remembered reading somewhere that it was good to turn the lights in the tank at night so that it can simulate light. Does it really matter if I do this, or is it a good idea?

I person at the local fish store said that a 20 watt bulb in a 29 gallon tank would be enough light to keep most soft corals and many anenomes. is this true? he also said that any higher of wattage and the algae would get out of control. (i have a slight algae problem now but just added 20 snails)

I adopted a 1.5 yr old kitty from the shelter a week ago. When I first met him he was very sweet, wanted to be loved and showed no aggression other than light nibbling when I touched his paws. Well, we brought him home and he really is a sweet loving cat. EXCEPT he bites when he gets annoyed. This has been worrying me a bit but thought it was something I could handle until I brought him to my vet for the shelter check and rabies shot. He flipped out, scratched and bit the vet. Even after the vet let him go he was trying to attack him. The vet said he thought I should rethink him as I have a 4 year old daughter.
I'm devastated.
Any advice on this. He has bitten and scratched me a bit but I really didn't think it was excessive since I just got him and he is getting used to everything.
Any ideas on getting him to stop the biting etc? Should I give him back? HELP!

I found a little white worm on my cat. I have been reading a little bit and have discovered that many cats have this problem. My husband and I live in Hawaii so fleas are always a concern and we keep Ms. Kitty on flea medication, but now she has these little white worms we have to deal with I have heard that I can get so medication to get rid of them but how do I stop them from coming back? We clean out her litter box everyday, we feed her twice a day and keep her food in a tupperware. We change her water maybe once a week because we have one of those kitty water cooler type dishes. Any tips would be helpful. My cat is like my baby so I need help cause if anything happens to her I will flip out. I am barley hanging on as is. Thanks for any help. :)

I adopted a dog from a shelter that rescued dogs from a Virginia puppy mill and she still has not pooped or peepee'd outside. I have had her for almost three weeks. I have stood outside for hours trying to be patient with her. As soon as we walk inside she does her business on the newspaper. She is crated when we are not home and is now going in her own crate. I am really disappointed that I cannot get her to go outside. I have even put vinegar around my house to try to keep her from going in the house. Does anyone know why she may be doing this and how I can get her to go outside?
