why do cats make a weird noise and shutter their mouth wen they see a bird or something? My cat started at a kitten and used to do it wen he saw the mouse moving on the screen...

Saturday I took the geeky Bernese pups (nearly 8 mos old) to a conformation match. They're not competitive yet but its really important they get out in public and learn how to behave.

Sunday the pups mother was entered in an AKC conformation show and took Winners B*tch and Best of Opposite sex. We're mere points away from her championship.

I also had my Samoyed puppy (8 mos old) entered. He earned his first point and a Best of breed. We had great fun!!!

So, what did you do with your dogs that was fun?

It is a 29 gallon tank and has 55 gallon filtration w/ some live plants, this is what it currently is housing
-12 female bettas
-1 dwarf bristle nose pleco

This is what I would like to add
-4 bronze cories

I do 1/4 weekly water changes and change the cartdridges once a month, so far everyone is happy and healthy, the tank has been running for at least 3 months w/ fish.

Thanks in Advance!

When I look at my cat I can see what I figure are his lungs moving a great deal more than usual and more than our other cats. If I pick him up he puts his tongue out and gasp for air.

He usually meows a good deal and purrs all the time, but recently no purrs and very few but also very weak meows. He has been mainly staying in a few spots and not that active. Also, he does not want to eat or drink much.

Although, last night we got him to eat and drink a little and he moved around. Today he also was moving around the house some and seemed to be somewhat better, but now he seems to be worse again.

I was planning on taking him to the vet hopefully soon, but was wondering what it could be and if there is anything I can do?

We just adopted a kitten from a breeder. I brought the contract to the vet. Our breeder had mentioned that she will void the contract if we get the FIP vaccine. She explained to me the reasons and I researched it. It seemed as it is a confusing subject. However, I think the vet does not agree with the breeder (she is the professional) and she would advice to get all the vaccines.

The kitten was expensive. Not just that, he is part of the family and we are keeping him, we bond already

Is not getting the FIP bad or good?

I have done a lot of research on having rats as pets and have personal experience handling them (I work part time at Petco), but I am trying to convince my husband to get two. We currently have a 2 year old hamster and he loves him. However, like most people, he doesn't like rats' tails. I've told him everything I could think of, but I was thinking by asking this question, perhaps you too can give him some reasons to have (or not have) rats - basically from your personal experience?

Hi. I am living in a city with an English Mastiff who is almost a year now, very well behaved and trained. I was approached by a drunk who made a move on me physically and verbally outside my bank. He was subtle in actions but scared me with words, taking time to befriend the dog and my kid before he spoke to me. I couldnt make a scene w/the kid so I told him to go away and that I was reporting him. The whole thing was really rattling. The bank called the police. I went out to leave and the guy came right over again & just as I was getting ready to respond, my dog went nuts. I have never seen him like this. Other than my own fear, there was no obvious threat. Did he sense the threat from me? I comforted him and then went home but on the way home he reacted agressively to two more people who spoke to me. What can I do to let him know it's ok and should I worry now that he is going to be wary of everyone for a while? I'm glad to know he'll protect me if need be but concerned.

While I appreciate the answers, allow me to clarify:
1. When I brought Hallie in to the house, I kept her in a cage initially, for about a month, until they got used to each other. I'm assuming that his aggression towards her is because she came in sick, and he has had to undergo some treatment because of it.
2. My friends are not bringing their cats into my home. I NEVER allow my friends to bring their cats over. I have only notice him attack those friends who OWN cats.
3. I can't do much by way of rearranging and allowing special rooms for him. I live in a one bedroom apartment. I have a small kitchen, living/dining room, bathroom, bedroom. That's it!
I will dry the herbal stuff, please elaborate on the sights for re-introducing Hallie into the home. I allow for plenty of cuddle time with Tyson, but Hallie is a sweet little mush ball who just wants to be loved -- even by Tyson, who repeatedly attacks her.
Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know where I could get a Miniature Chihuahua? I have checked the ASPCA, Pound, Petsmart and Pet co. I would rather go thru a petstore instead of private party

I have two dawrf puffer fish [currently unnamed :C ] but they aren't touching the brine shrimp pellets i fed them. I'm gonna get some bloodworms and live and/or frozen brine shrimp, but i wanted to get some snails for them too cause i hear they have teeth [i wasn't sure if only some had teeth or all].

My friend has several fish including tetras bettas [ i think] and many more, and he has a hardy supply of those random snails you get with live plants. and i was wondering if he could donate me some snails so that my puffers [if they have teeth] can nibble on them and chisel down there teeth?

i also only have fake plants at the moment so the only thing i'd have to worry about is population control and stuff.

advice?

i have a 29 gallon tank with 12 tiger barbs, how many cory catfish can i put in there too?

also i have a 5 gallon with just a betta and a snail, and my snail ate all my plants except for my amazon sword plant. the plant looks nice and green but i think it made 2 or 3 small plants with roots and all off of it. can i move it to my 29 gallon? theres baby snails on the plants and i dont really want a snail infestation in my 29 gallon. any way of gettin them off? and will the regular flourescant tube that came with my tank be okay for the sword plants?

thanks

My betta fish had what appeared to be an ulcer or some sort of sore in front of his left eye in the beginning of July. It was swollen and there was white fuzz on it. I treated it with drop in tablets to clear up the infection. The infection had appeared to go away and he is swimming and eating again, however the area where he had the infection has not healed yet and it appears that in an area double the area of the original infection the scales have fallen off. Is this because of the infection or is there another problem. He appears healthy has he is swimming around the bowl and eating. Any ideas?

I have two dogs so he's made my list...and that's not a good thing...I hate it when I see a video of dogs fighting!! It breaks my heart to know that many people enjoy this kind of cruelty and have pleasure in killing or tourturing the loosing dog...

My cat is an outdoor cat and my neighbours have this really nasty cat that has given him a scratch on his nose. Can I clean it with hydrogen peroxide like when I get a cut or will it hurt him too much? I want to help him make it feel better or heal faster, is there anything I can or should do?

Okay, today I was walking home and I heard a cat meow at me. My younger brother and his friends saw it, and we all gather around it. One of the children gently picked up the cat were we brought it to my house and gave it some tuna and milk. It seemed to very hungry, and it was very small. We played with it for a bit, and had some fun. My brother got ahead of himself, and named it Jake. The thing is…I know whom this cat belongs to. It is my friends neighbors, but they miss treat it! It is always outside, and when the boys see it they will yank it tail and scream bad kitty toward it. The children were taken away by the DHS, but broken back, so I am pretty sure that they cannot really care for a cat, but then again that cat might be the only thing that they have. So what should I do?

I have had a kitty, Tyson, for 3 years. He used to be a sweet kitty, never really very loving or mushy, but never like he is now. I took in a stray cat in November, and ever since, he has been down right nasty! He attacks the other cat, chasing her around my one bedroom apartment and biting her, and, even worse, when any of my friends who own cats come into my home, he attacks them, trying to scratch them and hissing. I have heard rumors that he is being territorial, and showing territorial aggression in that when he smells cat on someone else, he thinks that they are going to bring a new cat into the house. I also read somewhere that there is medication that I can give him, but I don't even take medication, I don't want to give it to my cat! Any suggestions???

It seems that many Americans have an obsession with dangerous pets like snakes, alligators and dangerous dog breeds like pit bulls and even get tigers. Why do people get dangerous pets?
This phenomenon seems to be especially true of the lower classes. Is it out of ignorance, an unhealthy obsession with danger , a need to showoff in public or compensating for a lack of masculinity and/or money?

They jump in before I even have a chance to put the lid back on. They're just 4 months old so I don't think they marking or are they? I have 3 grown cats who don't pay me any mind when I clean it. I'm having the babies fixed as soon they are ready (the vet recommends 6 months). Is it just a game or what?
