There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua .Some breeders use these cutesy phrases as "marketing terms" for the different weights that Chihuahuas come in. All of these phrases are made-up. The only classifications that Chihuahuas should be put into is Smooth Coat and Long Coat, i.e. you have a Smooth Coat Chihuahua or you have a Long Coat Chihuahua. But you do NOT have a "Teacup" or a "Miniature" or a "Standard." Yes, certainly, Chihuahuas come in different weights, but they do NOT come in different weight "varieties". Whether they weigh 2 pounds or 6 pounds or 10 pounds, they are called, simply, Chihuahua. Some are simply smaller or larger than others. For the show ring, they must weigh less than 6 pounds, but many individuals weigh up to 8 or 10 or even 12 pounds. These larger dogs are certainly sturdier, so don't dismiss them as good pets.

In fact, I do NOT recommend a Chihuahua under 4 pounds. These individuals are great risks in the health department. Their bones are extremely fragile. There is not enough room in their mouth for healthy teeth. Their internal organs are often weak and can fail suddenly. They tend to have great difficulty regulating their blood sugar and can suddenly fall into hypoglycemic comas.
Responsible Chihuahua breeders never try to produce these tiny high-risk creatures. If a tiny one pops up in one of their litters, they do their best to find the best home that can keep it alive, yes, but they try hard NOT to produce them in the first place because it's not fair to the poor little creature.
Try petfinder.com and adopt a chihuahua or locate a responsible breeder through akc.org

Your friend doesnt have a teacup chihuahua she has a poorly bred unhealthy small chihuahua. i bet you woul;d rather go to a petstore when noone cares about animals,FYI "teacup" chihuashuas can not reporduce and are very unhealthy and often dont live more than 5 years

I hope you consider adopting one there are many for adoption that are puppies and cost a lot less. Glad you now know theres no minature chihuahuas ts better to get a healthy puppy then a tiny puppy that isnt healthy.

The puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills. There is no way to know what the parents looked like or how they even lived. Most likely they live in a small cage and are bred every heat and not cared for very well.

You are better off finding a reputable breeder. Check the chihuahua club of america for breeders.
Make sure that you find a breeder that checks for genetic conditions using ofa, cerf, pennhip..ect. Also make sure they breed to better the breed.
Be sure to ask a lot of questions.
Also know there is no such thing as teacup puppies/dogs.

I am glad you now realize tehre are no "miniature chihuahuas". But before you go buying, Consider this: Almost all, and I mean 99.99%, of puppies in pet shops are
from puppymills and backyard breeders. These animals are bred until dead.
They are puppy manufacturing machines, and have no life as a pet. They are
kept as cheaply as possible to keep profits high. Some puppymillers have
even been known to chop up the dogs and puppies that die in whelping
(puppy-birth) and feed them to the surviving dogs! They are kept in stacked
cages to make it possible to keep more producing puppies in less space. The
uring and feces from the dogs on top drops on the dogs below. The vet care
is shoddy at best, if it even exists. Do you know what they do to keep noise
from barking dogs down? They shove a pvc pipe down the dog's throat and
pound it with a hammer until they sever the vocal cords.

Do you want to be a reason they continue to abuse dogs for a buck? Do you
think you can sleep at night knowing some of the money you paid for a
petshop dog will be used to buy another dog to have it bred until it's dead?
Go to www.nopuppymills.com Please look at this horror, and pledge not to buy
fromn a petshop. Adoption is the best option.

Just because you know someone who was dumb enough to buy a "miniature chihuahua" (and who likely paid big bucks for an ill-bred, sickly runt of a dog) doesn't mean that there is such a breed.

There's just irresponsible breeders and puppy millers and pet store owners who will cash in on the ignorance and stupidity of folks who think that there IS such a thing as a "miniature chihuahua"...

Chihuahuas are considered a "TOY" breed, and also happens to be the smallest of the Toy breeds. I don't know where you are getting your info from but the standards set be UKC, AKC and CCA are 3 to 6 lbs., some clubs standards are as low as 1.5 to 6 lbs. at any rate, many REPLICABLE breeders will not breed or recommend under 3 lbs. But if you "know they exist" go right ahead and spend up the shanoozle for an inferior bred, sickly dog.

why the pet store requirement ?- that virtually guarentees you get a low quality dog at an inflated price. And as a bonus you give aid (& $$) to puppy mills. Since no reputable breeder will sell a pup for resale all pet store pups come from puppy mills....

Aren't chihuahuas small enough already?? You really need a Miniature Chihuahua??

Yeah I guess the petstore is the only place you are going to get something so ... sad.. They are the ones that deal with puppymills and puppymills are the only ones breeding mini chihuahuas... Good luck with that one.. We all know that you don't support puppymills and a good start is by refusing to buy dogs from petstores.. Don't forget to buy pet health insurance.. You'll need it!

There is no such thing as a "miniature Chihuahua."

If you know a person who has one, why are you asking here? Ask THEM where they got their dog.

You would rather go through a pet store to buy a dog? Check out this link, lots of cute mini Chihuahuas here I'm sure:

Find a good breeder. If you get a dog from a pet store it is most likely from a Puppy Mill and have a lot of issues.
