That is perfectly fine for an adult male. That would be too small for a large female though. I have many ball pythons, and at the most, my males get 3 square feet of floor space.

This isn't widely known: but a snake should be able to stretch out completely in its enclosure without its head or tail touching the ends. This not only gives it room to wander but also provides excellent respiratory health.
I keep my ball in a 50 gal (with plenty of hiding places) He's about four ft long now.

I kept my adult Ball in a 55 galon tank. My son had an albino burmese and he ended up making an enclosure for her when she got about 6 ft. Keeping your Ball in an aquarium is fine as long as you have a lock down screen top. They are good escape artist so be sure to keep an eye on it.

You should buy a regular cage. Aquariums with removable tops are not escape proof.
Almost every day, somebody asks how to find their escaped snake. You will ask the same thing, if you put your snake in an aquarium with a removable top.
