I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 bio wheels, 12 plants, a heater, and the following fish:

1 bala shark
2 clown loaches
1 cory
2 guppies
1 gwarf gourami
1 angelfish
1 mickey mouse platy
3 neon tetras
1 sicilian worm
2 red glowfish

They all get along great!! my betta is in a 2 1/2 gallon tank which seems to get dirty very easily. The 2 1/2 gallon doesn't have a filter or anything other than fake plants and a rock that he sleeps in. Can i put him in my 55 gallon?? If not, what about a fantail goldfish?? I have a goldfish in another 2 1/2 gallon but this one has a fliter, so if the goldfish moves, then the betta can take her place. Which would be better??

yesterday. My finace` LOVED that dog.... oh and she just became my fiance on sunday evening..... should I get another one to help her forget about Ron (our dog)? Or should I let time heal her? She was talking about getting a mutt from the pound so that Ron would have a buddy about a year ago. I loved him, too, so it wouldn't be just for her.

After 3 years Myrtle finally figured out how to escape from her outdoor baby pool and its enclosure! She immediately high-tailed it across the lawn and under the pool yard fence and deposited herself in our in-ground swimming pool. I saw her escape from where I was sitting on the porch and immediately ran out and fished her out with the skimmer net so she only swam around for maybe 2 minutes. My question is how harmful is swimming pool water for red eared sliders? She seems fine, this was 2 days ago, and she's still active and eating and everything normal. I know the water quality in her tank is stablized and filtered so I worry that the pool water was too chlorinated. I haven't been able to find anything in my books or anywhere about turtles being exposed to pool water so I'm curious.

Thanks!

I keep a 10 gallon tank with 4 guppies, 3 females and 1 male, 4 neon tetras and 2 black tetras. I recently noticed a problem with what appears to be ich, some of the fish have small white spots predominantly on their fins but some on their bodies aswell and some were thrashing their bodies off the gravel. I began dosing for this using Interpet Aquarium Treatment #6. I then began noticing some of the fish had become darkened around the body and mouth as if by ammonia burning. Having tested my water levels for Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite and pH and finding them ok I don't know what's causing this. Also 1 of the female guppies appears to be heavily pregnant and her spine has become curved towards the end of her body, is this natural in the latter stages of pregnancy or is it a broken back from thrashing off the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in a multiple cat household (4 total!) but will be moving soon. One of my cats, the only male, was recently put on Prozac to stop his spraying habits (it was either that or my dad was going to throw him out...). My family is going to be moving to our new house in shifts; first my dad and then my mom and I will follow a few months later. My question is should we move the male first or the girls? Is it better to let him get comfortable or should we let the less dominant females get aclimated first?

For all the "save the horses" people out there. ALL of you for the ban, I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS FOR YOU.

HAVE YOU????

1. Added your local rescue or retirement home to your expense record and cut them a good sized check every month?

2. Have you gone out and "rescued" one to care for, for its entire life?

3. Have you started any fund raisers or done anything to help all the horses out there?

4. Did you make a stand on the starving horses in Burns, OR? WE POSTED IT SEVERAL TIMES HERE, NEVER GOT MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF RESPONSES.

Or, do you just keep yelling stop the slaughter and figure the rest is up to others to deal with???????

IF, YOU CAN ANSWER YES TO EACH ANSWER.....GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! IF YOU CAN'T, WELL, JUST ZIP IT AND GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING TO "SAVE THE HORSES"!

Is this normal? The after birth is gone but each of the 3 cats still have about an inch- 2 inches left on their umbilical cord. Will if just dry up and fall off its self, like a babies? If so is there anything i need to do as far as the care goes?
Also the first kitten had the after birth attached, then the other 2 kittens came. Shouldnt the after birth come at the very end when they have all been born?

my little sister starts college in the fall (ha, guess i can't call her lil sis anymore lol). she's studying to be a marine biologist so i think i want to get her an aquarium. I know that our mom and dad got her a 10 gal for her bedroom last year and she loves it, but she’s always wanted a salt-water. So I want to know what size I should get her, (it’s a privet dorm room), what kind of fish and accessories do you think she would like and what kind a fish would do well together? (I know that the tank has to be established for a week or two before adding the fish.) so, any suggestions guys? Thanks!

BTW I know that it's harder to get a smaller tank to set up for salt water...so would it really be better to just do a fresh water? if so, what accessories should i get and what fish do well together??

My dog has been scratching his ears excessively to the point that they bleed on the inside. He then licks his paws. He also has started shaking his head vigirously. I hear that you can give dogs Benadryl in this situation if the itching is from allergies. Is this true? How much can I give him (he is 75-80lbs) and how often? Please link any good websites.

I have a little 12 lbs dog. She is very loving and gentle and always shows a lot of submissive behavior such as rolling over onto her back.

She is a total lap dog and loves being around people and sitting next to them sleeping.

She is now 18 months old and I have noticed that if I try to stop her doing something ie sitting on the bed she showes her teeth.

Just a tiny bit but I notice, my response is to slap her straight away with a "NO".

What is the best and most productive way to train this out of her.

Thanks

I have a 30 gallon aquarium with a Bio-Wheel type filter rated for 50 g. I live on the fourth floor in my apartment building and the aquarium sits on the floor. I take care of a large Orange Orada and a large Black Moor. I want to reduce my electric consumption so I am trying to avoid running the air conditioner as much as possible. The problem is that when outside temps are in the 80's and 90's (I live in Minneapolis, MN) the room temp. although lower than the outside temp is still high. I have 2 of those sticker type thermometers on the tank and I have seen the temp range from 70-84 degrees. I would like the tank to be in the low to mid 70's. Any ideas on how I can keep the temp down on these hot summer days??? I keep the hood light off all day and at this time I have a small fan blowing across the water surface to cool by evaporation. My only other idea is to get some of those reusable ice packs, put them in a ziplock bag and float 1 or 2 in the water. Thank You!!!!!!

Hey there....I have a pug the past 2 mornings, and on our late pm walk Duncan is acting like he doesn't even want to go out for a walk. I basically had to bribe him to come outside for a walk.
1) yesterday morning I had to bribe him out with treats. Then, he didn't even want to walk. He did his business, but it was about 15 feet from my place. I had to pick him up and bring him back in basically. When I go home from work though, he had no problem what so ever going out for his walk. But, then on his late night walk he pretty much pulled the same thing, but didn't even do his business.

2) This morning wasn't quite as bad, but I had to ask him to come out and when he did he was just being sort of moapy. He did his business though.

Is he being stuborn, sick, should I be concerned? He's not being lethargic around the house or anything. Nothing to me indicates he's sick. Him and my roommates dog were playing last night with each other, business as usual. He's eating fine too.

I did about a 40% water change in my 10 gallon tank yesterday. The pH and ammonia levels were too high. How long do I have to wait before I can test the water again? I don't want to waste a few test strips if the water isn't ready.
