What can I say, cats are quirky! Gotta love them. I have one that I feed in the bathroom also, but I cannot leave out his food all the time because he will overeat, and any time one of us uses the restroom I feed him in, he will run in there and meow like he is starving! (and that is something he is not!) As far as peeing on your couch, I do not have a clue. Maybe the cat is just mad! They are VERY temperamental, you know.
If you are worried about it, you could always call your vet.

My cat is 10 and she has done that for years, well not pea on the couch, but meow at her bowl until I refill it. If it even looks like there is some gone she freaks out and meows me to death! Sounds bad but I just ignore her. She still does it though, she is relentless. You could take her to the vet to make sure her body isn't lacking any minerals or vitamins, but my vet told me that it probably relates to her nerve problem. She has anxiety and is very nervous so I think when her dish gets low she freaks out like she might starve or something. But if i were you I would have your vet do some blood work to rule out medical problems, and if thats free and clear just continue to refill her bowl just to let her know that you will always make sure she has plenty to eat.....Good luck!

She needs to be examined by your veterinarian, and at her age blood work (including a thyroid panel) and a urinalysis are definitely in order (especially because she urinates improperly).

Severely increased appetite, especially if it's not accompanied by appropriate weight gain (if she eats like a pig but doesn't put on weight) is a sure sign of metabolic disorder, such as hyperthyroidism. If she drinks like a fish and pees everywhere, she may easily have a urinary tract disease, including infection, kidney disease, or stones, and diabetes can also be indicated by such behavior.

Because of her age, any change in behavior is call to see the vet, cats will not act the way you might expect when they are ill, and so what you view as behavioral problems may actually be important signs of disease symptoms.

You cat is old and getting cranky. But why is her food in the bathroom. There must be a more appealing place to feed her. I can't imagine that is making her happy. Would you want to eat in a smelly bathroom?

She wants something else to eat - a piece of ham, turkey or bacon - tired of the same old grub.
