I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 bio wheels, 12 plants, a heater, and the following fish:

1 bala shark
2 clown loaches
1 cory
2 guppies
1 gwarf gourami
1 angelfish
1 mickey mouse platy
3 neon tetras
1 sicilian worm
2 red glowfish

They all get along great!! my betta is in a 2 1/2 gallon tank which seems to get dirty very easily. The 2 1/2 gallon doesn't have a filter or anything other than fake plants and a rock that he sleeps in. Can i put him in my 55 gallon?? If not, what about a fantail goldfish?? I have a goldfish in another 2 1/2 gallon but this one has a fliter, so if the goldfish moves, then the betta can take her place. Which would be better??

I dont see why that Betta can't go over at all. The flow from the BioWheels is not every excessive to cause a strong current that would toss him about. You may have issues with that Betta and the Guppies though. The fins on males could lead him to feel this is another competitor and he may attack them. Conversely though, Angel fish are quite nasty sometimes, and it may go after the Betta. As you've said though, they all seem to get along and there haven't been any deaths, so you could try it out. Keep an eye on the Betta and guppies, and the Angel and Betta. Those may be the only potential issues. If you see someone getting too aggressive towards another, you can always put the Betta back in the 3 gallon tank.

Your best bet is to not put the betta in because you already have territorial fish like the gourami and angelfish and they will attract aggression from each other. Your fish are obviously still young your you would have run into other problems by now, but just wait and see. Still, if you have lots of plants and stuff, then in a 55 gallon it could work out with a bit of luck.

Angel fish, at adult size, can and do eat neon tetras. It's a natural food for them in the wild. This will happen down the road but won't be a problem yet. For now you should concentrate on getting more neons, they are schooling fish. Ditto with the Corydora.

Clown loaches will outgrow a 55 gallon in time, and will quickly become a monster compared to the poor, inadequate cory cats. Same with the Bala Sharks. You should really choose between smaller or larger fish - hopefully smaller since this tank isn't big enough to accomadate the larger types.

You should take your goldfish back to the store, because in reality you can't give it a proper home. They are coldwater fish that won't do well in a tropical environment, and they are very large growing fish that don't belong in a fishbowl and will grow stunted and die very prematurely.

Goldfish are coldwater fish and putting it in a tropical tank would kill it. The Betta would be fine in that tank. But as a warning, Clown Loaches need to be kept in groups of 5or more and each gets about a foot long. Bala Sharks also get a foot long. I am concerned that you are killing these big fish by stunting them in such a small tank. Also, you have done a poor job of stocking your tank as far as numbers go. Corries, Clowns, Bala Sharks, Neons, Guppies, and Angelfish all do best in groups and you have far too few of each species. Get rid of the Shark and the 2 Clown Loaches, add 10 Neon Tetras, add 5 Guppies, add 3 Corries and you are off to a much better start. So your fish totals would look like:

4 Corries
7Guppies
1 Dwarf Gourami
1 Angelfish
1 Mickey Mouse Platy
13 Neon Tetras
1 Sicilian Worm
2 Red Glowfish

no. the betta will fight with the guppies because they both have long flowing fins, and the gourami and betta wont get along.
the angel fish will probably kill the betta
so would thebala shark which should get to be 15 inches. he wil get too big for that many fish in the tank with him.

thats a no on the goldfish too. they dont live comfortably with tropical fish. and make a mess more than other fish.

your goldie will die a short life stunted in your 2.5 gallon

Well........the betta will NOT like being in a tank with the Angel Fish or any other fish with flashy tails/fins (Gourami, guppies, etc). It might be dangerous for all of them because of stress, nipping and or fighting.

Think of the betta as self-ish ego fish. They want to be the only pretty thing around. That is how they got their reputation as being the Japanese fighting fish. 2 males will destroy each other.

Also: LOVE the fantail goldfish but they are considered high ammonia polluters. Unless you have excellent filtration - it is not typically recommended that you put them in a tropical community tank.

Usually, people add a goldfish to take care of any snail problems. Just ONE should be ok - but considering you have the clown loaches - any snail problems you might have should be well taken care of.

Neither choice sounds ideal but...you can always give it a try. Maybe you'll luck out.

Goodluck!

Hi, I won't complicate matters by adding to the compatibly debate on your 55 gallon but I would urge you to get a much bigger tank for your Goldfish-certainly not in your 55 gallon tropical tank-they only do well with their own kind, she needs at least a filtered 20 gallon unheated tank with a lid plus another Goldy like herself as they love to interact with each other.

I wouldn't put the betta in the tank. Angel fish are aggressive and so are bettas. They will attack each other. The goldfish should be fine though.

we put are betta in a tank with are other fish and the other fish ate are betta. they need to be in there own bowl. so i would not put it in with all those other fish if you want him to live. bettas are ment to be by there selves.
