Why is it everytime someone posts a question regarding a problem with their pet everyone answers by suggestion you take the animal to the vet? Obviously if that were an option the question would not be posted!! Why don't any vets answer questions so that the questioner isn't left with "going to the vet" their only option? Many times a vet will tell you stuff you already know and I don't believe I have to pay somewhere around $100 to hear it! Its like going to the doctor for a common cold. All they tell you is what you already know, suggest you purchase medication that only supresses the symptoms and say there isn't anything else they can do!! We need more professionals responding to these questions instead of the average layman who simply states, "go to the vet" and has nothing more to offer in terms of good, descent suggestions!

Every time I take a bath, she hops up on the tub and cries until I pet her with my wet hands. Once she is completely wet she jumps down and grooms herself clean. I guess since she doesn't have another cat friend to groom her, I am the next best thing.

Tell me something funny about your pet(s)!

I'm planning on getting a dog, and EVERYONE says ..." adopt from a rescue, don't go to a breeder." and all the rescue sites say " rescue a dog, and don't buy from a breeder."

Well, I apply over and over and they say I'm not suitable!

Sure, I have a 2 story 1100 sq foot town home and I make enough to support a dog, and I don't have children but... becasue I'm under 25 and I rent- I'm a "risk."

okay okay, I GET that they want the dog to have a stable home. but If i havent moved in 4 years or changed jobs and I'm not planning on it- doesnt that show stability?

isnt it hhypocritical to tell people to adopt and not buy and then decline them?!

I've gone to shelters and they only have really large dogs.

I guess i'm just going have to buy a dog.

There are many different "liberated" animals in the streets of Mexico struggling every day for their lives. What do the members of PETA think about their quality of life?

Granted, we've had this (dwarf) hamster for about a year and three months-and who knows how old it was while in the pet store (I do know that dwarf hamsters live for about 1.5 to 2 years), but she showed no signs of aging.
She's been running on her wheel for the past few days, all active and no slow-ness in movement-like normal. Then, the next day, when we go check up on her, she wasn't in her little house (where she normally is always), but rather tucked near a corner-dead, stiff, and non-responsive when coaxed ("touched").
Please, if anyone knows anything, it would mean a lot.-Thank you.

Right now we have 4 guppies (2 mail and 2 Female, we think) and A female beta living happily in a 20 Gallon tank, there are plenty of plants and fun things for them but still 2 of them swim quite vigorously with each other. We believe that these are the 2 males, the slightly larger of the two has a very spotted tail and flairs it when they are together almost like he is showing off, saying "Ha! Look at my fin, its spottier than yours 'flitter flitter flitter'". The slightly smaller Male is redder and its spots darkening. They do seem to 'fight,' like trying to nip at each other. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything we can do to help them? These fish are only a couple of months old, and as far as we know they have not birthed anything, they were given to us from a neighbor who got them from working at the humane society. If you need any more information I am happy to supply it!

my 2 month old pit bull sleeps in my bed...well my room is his room, but i see something weird about that. He never wants to get out, and if he does its only for a short period of time if he wants to play....and then he goes backs and just sits in my bed...and that's all he does pretty much all day and night....he don't like to be going out in cars or be in the living room....he's a pretty normal puppy...its just that lil weird thing...I'm scared he won't want me in my room later on when he gets older and make my room his territory as well...

I am either going to get a pittbull or a rottweiler. I did not choose these breeds because i want a mean or dangerous dog. I want a loyal and loving dog, but one that can be protective if it has to.

We have an Australian Shepeard who is 9 months old and we notice there was pee on the couch. When we took him to the spot and questioned him, he seemed unaware. (Usually if he knows he did something wrong he lays his ears back. He is also housetrained and asks to go outside if he needs to use the bathroom.) We scolded him but later found in weird how he didn't seem to know what was going on. DO dogs usually pee while they sleep (NOT in their confined area?)

and/or treating the polarfleece so that it does not attract cat hair so much? (Ways already tried: fabric softener, antistat laundry sheets to make the fabric less sticky, lint rollers and masking tape to remove the cat hair.) Getting rid of the cats isn't an option, and they are brushed regularly to minimize their shedding.

Does anyone know if a cat is able to recognise a person? If my cat didn't see me for a few weeks would she recognise me when she next saw me? Would she miss me when I'm not there?

It's really cute. I'm sitting watching tv and he just walked up to the coffee table and he placed his head on it and stared at me. He's trying to say something (probably wants to go out right now) but is there a significant meaning? Is there a site I can check out for dogs and how they communicate?

my pit had all her pups but while we were gone today she either attacked or accidentally bit 2 of them, bad enough that we had to take them to a vet to get them stitched up. the vet told us to bottle feed them every 2 hours and to wipe their bottoms and stuff so they can use the bathroom. my question is this, they are about 24 hours old now and every time i put them down they whine, but when i hold them they actually sleep. so how can i get any rest if they are always needing me to hold them. give me some suggestions please , if u have ever had to do this before please tell me how u did it. also, how long can the bottle of formula stay out of the fridge before i have to throw it out. like would it be safe to get a bottle of formula and leave it by my bed all night so that i don't have to do it when i am half asleep?

I can't tell if my cat is sick, & would like some help. Recently, he has lost a significant amount of weight (to name one issue), however he eats regularly as he always has. He drinks the same amount of water, & I think his bathroom habits are the same. He's always been playful, rather active & hasn't had fleas or any other illness that I'm aware of.

I've been letting him out a lot lately. The only visible issue is a small case of fleas, but his attitude has been out of control. We have another cat, whom he doesn't get along with & has hissed at & fought with. Recently, he's started craving a lot of attention, howling more, & has started hissing & growling at me, & scratching violently, just after getting attention or fed.

He's never been so genuinely aggressive, & with the weight loss & constant attention need, I can't help but think something is wrong. It's like I've swapped cats with the neighbor.

Does anyone have any insight as to what may be wrong, if anything?

My (non-fixed)cat ran away yesterday, I actually found it last night in the bushes outside my house, but it ran away when I tried to pick it up and now I can't find it. I put some food out for it and it came and at ate but again ran away. What can I do to catch it? If I leave the food out do you think it will come back tomorrow? This is the 3rd time she's ran away but before we found her in hours and its been over a day now.
