Cats don't forget the people they love. I have two for-instances for you. My daughter (software engineer) got a job that requires her to travel a great deal. She brough her 13 year old cat to live with me because she knew he would be loved and have great care and didn't want to depend on others to go in to feed while she was away. She lives three hours away from us. Apart from that, the cat would have been alone a lot. When she comes to visit, he still snuggles up to her and it happy to see her. When she is here, he sleeps with her, when she is not, he sleeps with me. She rescued him off the streets of Philadelphia and he will never forget the love and life they had together, even though he is perfectly happy here.
In another case, the family across the street had a fire about a month ago at their house. They are living in an apartment while repairs are being made to their house. They asked us to foster him temporarily. He is quite happy here and loves playing with the other cats. He spends his evening in my husband's lap... but when they come in the door, he hears their voices and comes running to say hello.
If you have had a strong bond with your cat, he will not forget you.

They normally recognise people they live with, and they can even have favourite and least favourite. They are pretty clever. My cat remembered me after I left home for 2 years, although she didn't see me for that amount of time. She was living with my family, and she didn't like my brother much because he was not friendly to her.
She will recognise you when she sees you next time, unless she's a tiny kitten you've just started living together a few days ago. And yes, cats miss you as long as you are nice to them, as they recognise you as their friend.

Cats do recognise people! I went away for two years! When I came back my cat recognised me! How ever she was not so happy that i had been away for so long! Cats get used to you! They know who you are and they know that you love them! So i would not worry to much! Apart from the fact that once you get back from some where they may give you the cold shoulder for awhile!!

Depends how long you have had your cat for. If it's for a few months and you're cat is settled, then yes your cat will recognise you.
Cats recognise voices, smells and faces, and when you're not around will miss you, as they are used to you being around.
When me and my husband went on our hols our cat who is normally very outgoing, turned quite quiet while at the cattery and went off his food, until we returned.

Yes cats do recognise you, and they miss you when your not around. I leave my nightie on my bed when i go on holiday so they have my scent. They still ignore me for about an hour when i get back for leaving them, but they are soon back to normal. Cats are very clever they even recognise the sound of my car, my sons car and my daughters car before its come into sight.

Cats can recognise people. My cats are very skittish around strangers but are fine around people they know. My boyf was away for 6 months and the cats remembered him. They didn't miss him though! When I went away for a weekend and left my neighbour to feed them then returned, still without boyfriend, they did seem to be looking for him though - as if they thought he should have come back with me.
I don't think they miss me though - just what I do for them like feeding them, playing with them and letting them sleep on my lap!

Of course they do. They aren't stupid. Many years ago, I went to live in Canada for 2 years. I left my 2 cats with my adult son. After I came home 2 years later, both cat immediately recognised me and came to me. One of them died aged 12 some years ago, but I still have one of the original 2 neutered boys. He is now 17 years old.

Of corse she will recognise you.
You haven't explained why she may have to be without you for a while but she will miss your attention and love the most.
When I come back from the shops, 3 of my 4 cats, are waiting to great me. If they are outside, they walk quite a way to great me.
One thing - if she is to be without you - expect her to have the Umph with you, she will be very put out indead and it will probably take a few days, for her to talk to you again.

Several years ago when I was still living with my parents, I went overseas for a month. My mom said that my cat kept going into my bedroom and meowing, like he was trying to find me. He also lost a lot of weight (which he needed to do, but still...). And when I returned, he initially gave me the cold shoulder, but he got over it after about ten minutes.
So yes...your cat does know you and will probably miss you!

As far as the question, yes I believe your cat knows you, or at least your scent, and yes it will recognise you after a trip away, or at least your scent.
