I've received a bartlett pear tree as a gift. My backyard does not have enough space to accomodate a 20' tree with that kind of width. I am pretty sure it is not a dwarf variety. I know VERY little about this stuff. Is there a way to keep it small and still bearing fruit or is it worth asking my brother in law to exchange it for a dwarf variety?

My fiance and I need to save some major money in the next little while, problem is- He got a surprise pay cut about a month after I quit my job to be a stay at home mom with our 5 yr old, and I am pregnant with our second baby. Before the pay cut, it would have been fine financially. Now, with me being 31 wks preg, we're in a tight spot.
I need any and all tips on how we can save some money, not necessarily to bank right now, but to live on.
If you have any ways we can save on everyday items and chores, let me know! I mean stuff like cooking, cleaning, pet care (3 cats, 1 dog), groceries, stuff like that. Since I am a stay at home mom I do have more time to spend "being frugal". We don't eat out much at all, live rural so don't do anything pricey for entertainment ($5 movie 2x a month), I use baking soda to clean, line dry our clothes, and try to use everything in our pantry before buying more... help! Fiance is freaking out about money!

ok this is a weird one, I know but i've been seeing some weird signs. The other night, I was laying in my bed tryign to sleep and the room was completely dark. And my light, which is turned on by dimmer instantly came on full blast. I turned it off, and it did it a second time. I'll plug in my straightening iron and set it on my sink and go upstairs while it warms up, and regularly when I come back it is moved to another shelf, and unplugged. Often times things will randomly fall out of cabinets. Once in a while i'll hear moans in certain parts of the house where certainly no one is. The strangest case is a time when my singing fish thing randomly lept 3 feet from where it was into my toilet and started singing "Put me in the water." Now, I know this all sounds really juvinile and farfetched.. and it's a dumb question, but i'm completely serious about everything I've said, and I wondered if anyone else has experienced anythign similar. Is it something to worry about?

Our entire neighborhood is infested with rats since they are building a new development down the street. We have killed a few rats with traps, but our dogs are getting smarter and starting to eat the bait (peanut butter) and I'm afraid they are going to get snapped by the trap. What else do people use? The exterminator gave up!

A few nights ago, I popped some corn, and left a little of it on a kitchen counter. The next day, I noticed several kernels on the bathroom floor. I asked my husband if he was eating popcorn in the bathroom. He said no.

My conclusion was that maybe we have a mouse, who took some in there. I have never seen any mouse droppings anywhere, or anything. No evidence of mice, except popcorn in the bathroom. I bought some mouse poison when we went into town that day.

Later noticed that the kernels are all gone. Husband claims to know nothing about this. I didn't pick them up.

What do you think is going on?

I have a stainless steel sink and everytime I buy a new sponge it smells from the sink. The sink is clean and I rest the sponge on the back of the sink resting against the backsplash. So its hardly even touching it. I do wipe the sink with it. But does anyone know if theres a chemical reason for it?

Be creative!
Funny is good. Scary is bad. Plain is boring.

The winner will receive a big "Thank You". (No commission, cash, interest in the company, copyright rights, etc, etc, etc, but will receive 10 points for creating the best name).

List as many names as you like, but try not to copy any other posts.

Here's what my company will take care of:
Termite Control (Both Drywood and Subterranean Termites)
Rodent Control (Rats, Mice)
Crawling Insect Control (if it crawls and has 6+ legs, we'll kill it)
Bedbug Treatments (yep, bedbugs are real)
Rodent Exclusions (blocking rodent access points... rat-proofing)

Thank you in advance, and to those who don't win the prestigeous "best answer", may the force be with you!

Thinking about buying a house on a very sloping block of land.

Obviously I am not a builder or landscaper, but to my eyes the timber posts in the retaining walls look old, and mis-shapen in parts. The current owner says walls are 8 years old, that you'd expect the walls to last 20 years.

Any comments? Anything obvious that would give me a clue?

I am known as the Flower Lady for the past 12 years in the SE area of our town, I sell flowers for .10 each on a card table, self pay in a jar :) Now I would like to learn how to press them and make keepsakes for my family members, but I'd like to hear from those who learned the hard way, not from sites you have cut and pasted please. Experience usually speaks loudest
