I have a stainless steel sink and everytime I buy a new sponge it smells from the sink. The sink is clean and I rest the sponge on the back of the sink resting against the backsplash. So its hardly even touching it. I do wipe the sink with it. But does anyone know if theres a chemical reason for it?

The sponge is new and the next day it will smell like always. Someone please give me a logical answer and not tell me how to clean it!!! Ive had porcelian sinks and this never happened. So it has something to do with the stainless steel.

Probably the chemical you are using to clean the sink with.

Yes there is. The steel has been treated to make it stainless. ( I am trying to put it into simple terms) Because those types of sinks have little grooves in them and the procelain doesn't, it does hold some residue. I haven't found a total cure for it, but I make sure that if food has gotten into the sink from an unscraped dish- I clean the sink with cleanser. I rinse the sink and sponge well afterwards as well. Also remember that most sponges are packed while damp- as soon as you open them, germs begin to breed there. A natural sponge may help- but may not be an effective scrubber.

don't really understand the question.. but Lemon oil cleans the stainless steel sink. and makes it the sink smell good. If it is the drain you are talking about. Pour some baking soda in the drain.. boil some vinegar and pour it down both sides at the same time. it will clean what ever is down in the drain out and the smell will be gone. After doing this run Hot water down the drain for a couple of minutes to finish the cleaning process. really works. Are you leaving something that has acid. like tomatoes or something else in the garbage disposal.. don't know where else a metalic smell could come from.. sorry can't think of anything else.

It depends on if the sponge is being allowed to dry out completely between uses. I find that throwing mine in the wash with hot water and bleach tends to eliminate unpleasant odors.
