The furnace in the garage is started by pressing in the knob and then lighting the pilot. I hold it there and it's suppose to get this thing warm and then the gas comes through and lights up. Then the pilot stays on, and I release the knob and turn it to on. The heater kicks in, and when it hits the right temp, it will shut off. But, it won't come back on because the pilot light goes out. Any ideas why?

The appliance repairman told me that my drop in range was not worth fixing. There seem to be a lot more options available with slide in ranges. Would it be practical to modify the cabinet to accomodate a slide in? Also would it be expensive?

The house was built in the 50's, I tested the legs for the switch to the fixture and it was hot. I checked all the plugs and everything is fine, there were no half hots that were changed out or anything. I didn't do the work. I was called in to fix the problem. When they changed the plugs out, the room fixture switch, and the two switches in th hall went? Please give me some Ideas

I am in the midst of replacing nearly every single thing in my whole house except for the windows, some floors, and a bit of furniture. My next project is to replace the blinds and drapes, but I have no idea on how to go about doing this. Can someone please give me some advice on how to do this. What measurements do I take to put the blinds/drapes in, width, width and height???? Any particular tools I will need to use in order to ge this accomplished???

I have a forced-hot-water heating system with three zones, first floor, second floor, and water tank. After some maintenance on the system the second floor is constantly heating, even though the thermostat is off. I checked the voltage on the circulator pump and it is zero, so the pump is not running. It sounds like it is acting like a gravity-fed system. There are manual valves on the system, but the only things in the loops that are controlled by the thermostats are the circulator pumps. Do the pumps act as valves when they are not pumping? That was my guess so I replaced the pump, but my registers are still hot. If the pump does NOT act as a valve, what is supposed to prevent the hot water from moving through the system when the pumps are not running? I need some HVAC basics here. Thanks!

Hello everyone I hope you are all happy and had a great day! OK, my parents have an older dishwasher. It worked great, untill they went away on a couple days of vacation. When they came back there was water all over the floor, they currently have it in a repair shop, but it has been there for a few days. Any ideas what could be wrong with it? Are there any chance they will get it back without any problems in the future? They cant really afford a new one right now!

It's not much water that comes up, and it is always just "gray water." It only happens when we run the clothes washer during the wash and rinse cycles. After about 15-20 seconds of gurgling and water backing up, it all quickly goes back down the drain. Nothing else causes this problem. Any theories?

About a month ago we replaced the heating coil in our 20 gallon hot water tank. Everything with it was working fine until now when we started to use the furnance. It keeps blowing out the fuse ( 15 amp ) on the circuit breaker. How do i know if its the heating coil on the hot water tank, the furnance or the fuse? Also, Is it hard to change a circuit breaker and is 15 amp the right amount or not for both the hot water tank and the furnance?

We had a septic system installed about 1 year ago with a 1200 gallon holding tank. The guy that installed in put in 100' of leachfield but our ditch gets alot of water when we shower and do a couple of loads of laundry. Do we possibly need more leach field? I know nothing about them but we heard from everyone around that the installers were the best in the area.

I just got a pole installed with a 220 amp box and a 30 amp rv plug in. I have to run a 30 amp cord 70-80 feet to hookup to pole. (wanted pole near street). Will i still get good electric service? Can i bury the cord? Will county aloow it. Here 30 inches deep. But ok for a rv cord? Do not want to wire to 220 yet. Because of the long trenching and costly hookup.
