The appliance repairman told me that my drop in range was not worth fixing. There seem to be a lot more options available with slide in ranges. Would it be practical to modify the cabinet to accomodate a slide in? Also would it be expensive?

I would have to totally remodel my kitchen to make room for a free standing. that's not practical now.

It usually does not require very much to go from a drop in range to a slide in. Many times you just need to remove a couple of screws that hold the panel at the base of the range fast to the adjacent cabinets

yes it can be done...i had a 27" drop in range in the center of my counter top but had to have a carpenter to modify my cabinet and drawers on either side so a 30" slide in range would fit...i must say it was expensive but i am very happy that i didn't replace the existing 27" drop in with another of it's kind...

If you have the tools and the skills then switching to a slide in is a great option. If you don't have either then you could really mess up your kitchen.

yes but you'll have to build a box..... why do that when there are so many options & double oven free standing/ convection/glass top etc.......... - why jack w/ drop in?
