My guess is that one of the switches that turns on the burnners burnt up some of the contacts and fried that ciruct close.

I would get someone to come check that out if I was you
it is not to serious if it did not do anything by now . But I would not trust it any more to leave the house and be sure that the litcchen is still there it might just be one burnner doing that

I believe that you are describing the pilot light for the surface units.A set of contacts on one of the infinite heat switches has burned together. There is one terminal on each infinite heat control for the burners that goes to the pilot light. on many ranges they are strung from one switch to another, sometimes to two switches on one side and two on the other side and sometimes to all four.

With the power off to the range remove the rear cover, trace the wire from the pilot light to the switches and pull the pilot wire off of one switch and wrap electrical tape around it so it won't short anything out and reconnect the power remembering to stay clear of the exposed components and wires. Repeat the process until you have found the switch that is keeping the pilot light on. Once you know which switch is bad you can buy a replacement and fix it up.
