Hello everyone I hope you are all happy and had a great day! OK, my parents have an older dishwasher. It worked great, untill they went away on a couple days of vacation. When they came back there was water all over the floor, they currently have it in a repair shop, but it has been there for a few days. Any ideas what could be wrong with it? Are there any chance they will get it back without any problems in the future? They cant really afford a new one right now!

I am surprised that the dishwasher is in a shop instead of having been repaired on site.

The problem is common, it happens with refrigerators and washing machines too. Its a water inlet valve which sticks in the open position and allows a trickle of water to come in and over time, you get a flood. I had one in my former apartment after plumbers did some plumbing repair and rust particles got into my dishwasher valve and caused a flood during the nite.

I replaced the valve which takes about half an hour to three quarters of an hour to repair on site. So, Im still confused why someone would take the whole dishwasher apart just to repair something so small.

If this happend after a wash, I'd attribute it to a leaky gasket, but due to the fact it wasnt used, I am sure you have a leaky valve. I hope the repairman who is doing this repair is honest and wont sell your parents a bill of goods.

i would have to look at it or know more information about it. I would say an old hose leaking or a bad seal. If it is old I would say dry rot on the hoses. They like to split right where they connect to a device.

they probably can 't afford the repair either.
probably fill valve, or main gasket, it may have rusted through. new ones can be had for as cheap as 190.00 on sale ( bottom line). plus install
