The top of our window is leaking. What is the best way to fix it temporarily and/or permanently? It's raining right now, inside and out! We need a quick answer, please!

The water is leaking through the top of the corner between the inside wall and the window (as if there is no caulking, which there isn't, but I think the problem is the exterior needs sealed).

First you have to wait until it is good and dry. Then get a good silicone caulk and use it inside and out around each and every area including where the glass meets the wood or aluminum.

Once it is completely dried give it a water test with the hose to see if you missed anywhere. It takes about a week for it to cure. Don't use cheap caulk.

For a temporary fix while it is raining, use plastic garbage bags and towels. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

You are basically out of luck until it stops raining and the area drys in regards to stopping the leak in the future. It may be that your chaulk needs to be replaced around your window, or something more detailed. Hopefully you'll be able to look at it with a ladder when it drys.

In the meantime, someone has this idea for a friend of mine. They said to tape some plastic (use a large trash bag) on the inside of the top of the window (the wall above the window opening), open the top of the window and drap the plastic so the water goes back outside.

Hopefully that will work to keep the water from coming inside.

Best wishes,
Elise
