I have a ceiling fan that won't work. My contractor thinks it may be because it isn't getting enough electricity. He says my house is running at standard 20 amps and the ceiling fan manual says it needs 120 V AC. Is this the same thing and the fan has a bad motor, or do I need to get a fan with a diferent voltage?

Thanks.

We are having a very hot summer here in the eastern US. I have a central air unit. It runs all day when the temp. is high outside. And the temp raises a few degrees during the day as well. It has been serviced and is only 4 years old. Think it normal from the hot temps?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this problem. I have this white powdery dust all over the house, assuming it is coming out of the AC ducts. I had the ducts cleaned, change my filter in the AC every month (just bought one that can be rinsed out with the gardenhose) and it's still visible all around the house......??? Anybody have a clue as to where this comes from......??? Do I need to have the ductwork replaced (the house is 10 yrs. old)...??? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.........

Some friends are moving, and their teen had put radio station stickers on his bedroom door; now they're preparing the house for sale, and need to get the stickers off of the door. Does anyone know of the easiest way to do this, and/or the best product(s) to buy to help remove these? (They're already assuming they'll have to repaint the door.) Thanks to everyone who has feedback for this question.

It started beeping periodically so I assume the battery was low. I live in an apartment and have no ladder, but was able to get the battery out, just barely. But I can't reach it enough to get another one installed in it. Protection isn't a problem because there is another one in another room less than 10 feet away. The problem is that even though I removed the battery, the alarm is still doing the periodic beeping. I can't get a maintenance man until morning to put the new battery in. Any suggestions about why it's still beeping(with no battery) and how to silence it until morning?

I'm going on vacation and have no idea where the shut off valve is for my spigot, or the main shut off valve for the house. People can use my outdoor hose and I want to turn off access to the water before I leave. How do I do this?

At work, on really warm and stagnant days, there was a gross odor coming from my boss's room. After a while, a wall was ripped open and a pipe from the roof was running through the wall and it was leaking. It was a gross moldy smell.

I just came in the house (after a 100 degree day) and I had the air vent closed in my computer room and the door closed all day. As soon as I opened the door I smelt that same musty moldy smell. Our house was just built in '98 - and we are starting to talk about selling the house in 2-3 years and building again.
Is there any chance of having that same type of mold in a wall here in a house this new? Is there any way to test for mold without ripping apart the walls?

I really really am scared because of that smell.
I opened the door and opened the air vent and its going away,
but I'm concerned about the bigger picture when we sell the house!

...to power my travel trailer?

this is a list of the appliances I will use, and aproximately for how long each day:

4 cu ft mini fridge nonstop
1000 watt microwave 15 mins
20 inch tv/satellite equip 5hours
laptop 5 hours
2 "standard" square fans nonstop
3 15 watt lights 8 hrs
stereo equipment 8 hrs
300 watts for whatever 2 hrs

considering that the place will be used year round, I personally figure that I should get two generators in case of a break down in one.

also, for the generator sixe that you recommend, any idea how much gas this will use in a day?

thanks a lot!
