I have a 1994 GE refrigerator that doesn't get as cold as it used to. I keep defrosting but that only helps for a short while. What should I do?

I am going to answer based on the most recent repair I had done to my fridge--which is a 1994 Kenmore.

The repairman came to have a look because the refrigerator did not stay at a uniform degree of coolness.
(The freezer compartment, however, did stay at a uniform temp.)

The repairman found that in my case, a blade had fallen off the fan that circulates air throughout the refrigerator. He simply put it back into place, and the fan now cools both freezer and fridge compartment effectively and dependably.

The other problem that produces this same effect is if the motor to the fan has died.
Then the fan cannot circulate cool air throughout and you'd have to get a new motor which will = approx. the cost of a new refrigerator.

Best wishes!
Open the fridge and listen for the humming sound of an operating fan, which cycles on and off to maintain temp.
If you do not hear that, then you might need a repair or a new refrigerator.

You should have it checked by a license re-frig person. They can recommend the fix or whether a new one is your best bet. You don't have to purchase a brand new model. There are good used re frigs in the classified sections everyday. You might want to check there B4 you call a service.

Whatever your choice...it is evident that your present one is not doing the job and has a problem.

Put a large fan next to it on full power or get another one.

make sure the radiator is clean so the heat can dissipate.
it may have leaked regrigerant. you can refill it but if it leaked once it will probably leak again.
Sorry to say but getting anew one may be a cheaper option.

Could be low on freon or a thermostat could have gone out.

It is 12 years old, it might be broke, and not worth repairing.
